Xbox Live Subscribers Receive Free $10 Gift Cards For Spring Sale

Gaming titan Xbox is giving network users a free $10 gift card via DMs. Players began randomly receiving the free vouchers from Xbox just before the weekend began, but it doesn’t seem like there’s any rhyme or reason to who actually gets selected for the free gift card.

Microsoft has been doing a lot for its users in the last few months, ranging from dropping paywalls to giving gifts. Earlier this week, Microsoft sent out free $5 Xbox gift cards to fans via email as a way to celebrate the Spring season. Although these gift cards ran out rather quickly, it seems the gaming giant was keen on ensuring Xbox fans still got treated to some free cash.

Fans began receiving free $10 vouchers in their Xbox Live messages yesterday as part of Xbox’s ongoing Spring celebration (via ComicBook). “Spring sale starts today!” reads the message. “Here is a special gift to help you make your first game purchase.” Users can then press a button to redeem the voucher, and they will have 90 days to spend the money. The money can be spent on a game that’s on sale, a movie, or to renew a Game Pass subscription, which will yield get many free games like Outriders or the upcoming MLB The Show 21, which makes its Xbox debut later this month and will be available on Game Pass from day one.

It’s unclear when Microsoft will stop sending out these messages, so users should check their inbox throughout the weekend to see if they received a voucher. Whether or not more gift cards will be going out in the coming weeks remains to be seen, but it’s not out of the ordinary for Microsoft to send out free gift cards to its fans at random. The Xbox team has been doing a lot to keep Xbox Live users engaged; just recently the platform holder dropped Xbox Live paywall requirements for free-to-play multiplayer games as well as party chat, among some other features.

This all comes roughly a year after rumors indicated that Xbox Live would soon become entirely free. These rumors were quickly squashed by Microsoft, but the company has gone ahead with rebranding the service to Xbox network. Earlier this year, the company attempted to double the price of Xbox Live Gold, but fans rejected it and the move was very quickly reversed. Whether or not the recent changes to Xbox Live requirements were always planned are unknown, but it looks like Xbox wants to listen to its fans and give them what they want.
