Gamers looking for the most expensive video game accessory might be in luck as a YouTuber has created a solid gold Xbox Series X controller that is fully functional but costs more than $80,000 to develop. The unique gamepad was revealed just a few months after the unveiling of a 24-karat gold-plated PlayStation 5 console that was sold to gamers for a pricey $10,000. In the case of the PS5 systems, they were created by a company that specializes in creating luxury versions of gadgets and clothing.

The actual Xbox Series X controller is largely the same as the gamepad produced by Microsoft for the Xbox One. However, it does have some new additions and improvements. This includes a share button to help make capturing screenshots and game clips easier than before along with a textured grip and better triggers. However, some have criticized the controller for being too small, causing a small number of players to experience pain in their hands when using the device for more than an hour.

YouTuber Linus Sebastian, the man behind the popular channel known as Linus Tech Tips, has created what might be the world’s most expensive gaming accessory. The Xbox Series X controller has been created with almost four pounds of 18-karat gold. The video documents the creation of the gamepad, with Linus working with the Vancouver-based company Expert Casings to develop the controller. The special effects studio usually develops props for the film industry and even tried to convince the YouTuber to use more malleable materials. Each section of the controller was molded separately, with a total cost of some $87,500. Of course, the inner workings of the controller were left intact, while the gold was cut with silver, zinc, and copper to ensure it was strong enough.

In other Xbox Series X controller news, Microsoft recently confirmed that it is aware of some issues with the latest version of the controller. Complaints had surfaced online about some of the buttons on the face of the gamepad becoming unresponsive, with a particular focus on the Y button no longer functioning correctly. Microsoft revealed that it was working on a solution to the problem.

Unfortunately for most gamers, this kind of extravagant controller is something that they will never get to experience. This might not be a terrible thing, though, as the gold controller is likely to not work quite as well as the standard Xbox Series X gamepad thanks to the fact that gold is not as flexible as plastic.
