Xbox Series Xs New Pulse Red Controller Is a Beauty

The latest Xbox Series X/S Wireless Controller design may be its best yet, as the gorgeous Pulse Red aesthetic has been announced by Microsoft to the delight of many fans looking for a splash of color in their home gaming setup. The Xbox Series X/S launch in November allowed Microsoft to debut a few new options for the Xbox Wireless Controller in the Carbon Black, Shock Blue, and Robot White options that are available right now, but the dominance of cool hues left some looking for a warmer palette in the near future.

Xbox has made controller aesthetic a priority for the brand in recent years, with custom Xbox controller orders made possible by the brand’s elaborate design interface in its Xbox Design Lab. While that service has been temporarily put on hold until sometime in 2021, it left its mark on both the Xbox’s perception and on the gaming industry at large, with consumers eager to be given more options in terms of their hardware’s visuals. While the Xbox Wireless Controller hasn’t garnered attention the same way the PS5 DualSense has, it remains a design that fans are both familiar with and fond of, which makes customization more of a priority for the Xbox device than it would be for something like a Switch Joy-Con, with the latter needing more attention paid to its drift issues than its aesthetic.

Xbox announced the new Xbox Series X/S Wireless Controller design earlier today in an Xbox Wire blog post that explored the Pulse Red design. The controller is significantly louder than its counterparts, with a splash of bright red on the front that extends to the button’s letter designations and its joysticks. That’s complemented by a black secondary color on the front and a light hint of white in the controller’s logo, while the back color blocks the controller with a chunk of white in the middle and underneath.

Color block designs tend to be pretty eye-catching, and the Xbox Series X/S Wireless Controller Pulse Red design is no different. Naturally, the only difference between this version of the controller and its earlier iterations is its aesthetic – it will function exactly the same as other Wireless Controllers otherwise.

Loud isn’t always a good thing, but the Xbox Series X/S Wireless Controller Pulse Red design seems to successfully navigate the potential pitfalls of its enthusiastically bright layout. It’s a much-needed option for a warm color in the Wireless Controller lineup following the new November additions, and it stands out in a way a lot of other designs don’t. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Pulse Red controller end up being one of the most popular options for Xbox fans, and it will be available starting February 9, 2021 in most Xbox markets – with a release tomorrow, January 12, 2021, in China.
