X-Men: Apocalypse Gets a Portugal TV Trailer & Empire Foldout

X-Men: Apocalypse gets a trailer for Portuguese TV and plenty of new images in the current issue of Empire Magazine.

In 2016, the holy trinity of superhero movies is the recently released Batman V Superman, the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, and Fox’s addition to the fray: X-Men: Apocalypse. Bryan Singer closes the book on the First Class prequel trilogy with an epic collision with Apocalypse, one of the most dangerous villains in the X-Men universe. In preparation of the earth-shattering devastation, Fox is going big with its marketing campaign.

The studio recently gave X-fans a stunning look at the utter destruction facing the planet in the second trailer (reportedly shown in front of Batman V Superman). As an added bonus, the final chapter of this X-Men-era also just received a new TV spot.

The new trailer (watch it above) launched in Portugal several days ago. It appears to be a condensed version of the second trailer, showcasing a tightly woven montage of the utter destruction Apocalypse (Oscar Isaacs) brings to the planet. Enthusiasts looking forward to a fresh peek at the movie may not get much in the way of new footage from the Portuguese trailer – it sure is thrilling to look at in condensed form, though – but they will appreciate the new spread in Empire.

The X-Men: Apocalypse preview issue comes in 9 variant covers and will encompass roughly 16 pages and feature quotes from the cast and crew. It will also explore the long and fascinating journey the X-Men took from a comic book to a popular animated series to the big screen. If you’re interested in owning another X-Men souvenir, the May issue of Empire hits newsstands on March 31.

The stills give fans a great look at the assembled X-Men with Professor X (James McAvoy), as well as several of the new mutant additions to the series such as Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) having a moment, Angel/Archangel (Ben Hardy) looking ready to tear it up, and Apocalypse awakening. The upcoming film will also be the first time fans will see the new Storm (Alexandra Shipp) in action and could also see the return of one of an old, favorite adamantium-clawed mutant. In addition, it will be exciting to watch Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) team up with the X-Men to combat this ancient foe. No matter how everything turns out, the aftermath of X-Men: Apocalypse will likely shake everything up in Fox’s corner of the MCU.

And, although a possible crossover has been generally dismissed, it’s hard to ignore arrival of Apocalypse coinciding with that of his old nemesis Cable in Deadpool 2 (up for release sometime in 2018). Depending upon how things wind up in X-Men: Apocalypse, is it possible we could see the two adversaries battle it out in the future – especially with a potential X-Force movie in the works? While this is nothing but speculation at this point, with a rebooted X-universe, anything is possible.

X-Men: Apocalypse will open in U.S. theaters on May 27th, 2016, followed by Wolverine 3 on March 3rd, 2017 and unannounced X-Men films on October 6th, 2017 (possibly Gambit), January 12th, 2018 (possibly Deadpool 2), and July 13th, 2018. The New Mutants is also in development.
