YouTube Star & Glow Up Guest Host NikkieTutorials Comes Out as Transgender

Makeup artist, YouTube personality, Glow Up guest host Nikkie de Jager – better known as her YouTube name, NikkieTutorials – posted a very personal message to her fans. The famous makeup artist uploaded a video of herself coming out to her followers as transgender.

Nikkie is a Dutch makeup artist and beauty vlogger who gained popularity all worldwide with her YouTube video, “The Power of Makeup” when it went viral. The video inspired a trend of people showing their faces before and after makeup. She began making makeup videos for YouTube since she was just 14-years-old and now ten years later her channel has nearly 13 million subscribers and over 1 billion video views. In her makeup artist career, she’s done looks on celebs like Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Jessie J, and Drew Barrymore.

The now 25-year-old makeup artist has decided it was time to reveal her truth. She went to her NikkieTutorials channel to post a video titled, “I’m Coming Out” in which she revealed that she is transgender. She said in the video, “Today I am here to share with you something that I’ve always wanted to share with you one day, but under my own circumstances.” She revealed that she no longer had that luxury of waiting until she was ready to tell her fans, as someone had tried to out her. She decided to come out as transgender and “take back [her] power.” Though she doesn’t “feel comfortable with labels” she reveals that she is technically considered transgender. She said, “When I was younger, I was born in the wrong body, which means I am transgender.” Check out Nikkie’s full video below:

She said if he has to put a label on it, she is trans, however, she doesn’t want to be defined by labels, saying, “At the end of the day, I am me.” Nikkie said she’d like to use her platform and her story to “inspire little Nikkie’s around the world, who feel insecure, who feel out of place, who feel misunderstood.” She revealed that she was born a male, however, her mom quickly understood that she was “either going to be gay or turn out to be a different type of story – and it turned out to be a different type of story.” She revealed that she had begun identifying and dressing as female when she was 7 or 8-years old and although she had some comments from kids, her mom and her school teachers were all very supportive of her. She explained that she lived her whole youth as a female, received hormones by the time she was 14 and was fully transitioned by the age of 19. She said, “I transitioned while on youtube. I have literally grown up and transformed into me in front of all of you.”

Nikkie had to reveal her truth out of fear of being blackmailed by someone whom she didn’t name, though she did give a middle finger to the camera for whomever she was talking about. Nikkie has fully embraced who she is and has become an icon for the LGBTQ+ community.
