Yuri On Ice Movie Still Being Worked On Despite Shutdowns

Self-isolation won’t stop co-creator Mitsurou Kubo from working on Yuri!!! on Ice Movie at home, in fact she was already doing it before coronavirus.

Co-creator and artist for Yuri!! on Ice, Mitsurou Kubo, gave an update regarding the highly anticipated anime movie Yuri!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence. Amid our current global health crisis, multiple movie production and release dates around the world have been pushed back in order to practice self-isolation and quarantine procedures to lessen the spread of coronavirus.

Kubo posted on Instagram an update about herself and desire to continue working on the film during self-isolation due to COVID-19, otherwise known as coronavirus. ANN reported the film was originally set for a 2019 release, but was first delayed due to the need of scaling the content more than what was originally planned. The film was first announced in April 2017, but as of now there is no word on what the new release date may be. Kubo’s post and her transcribed caption can seen below.

I’ve been living alone for a long time, and it’s been close to 25 years since I started drawing manga from home. And long, long before the recent self-isolation measures, I was at home working on #iceadolescence film. My burning desire to show this work to the world hasn’t changed, not even in these times. I want to work hard and move forward alongside you all, so that one day this film can be shown to you. I’m not in a position to share details regarding the film’s progress on social media, so my personal Instagram is going to just be a Foostagram from now on. This is my escape as an isolated person.

Yuri!! on Ice garnered a huge following when its first season premiered in October 2016. The story followed ice skating champion Victor Nikiforov mentoring the broken-down Yuri Katsuki after his loss at the Grand Prix Final. They work together to revive Yuri’s figure-skating career and aim to win the Grand Prix Championship. Fans praised not only the story, detailed ice-skating choreography, and message, but also the inclusion of a same-sex romantic relationship between Yuri and Victor. Even if there is no new release date in sight, fans of the show still hold excitement for one of the most popular anime to recently come out in the past few years.
