10 Adventure Time (2010 – 2018)

Adventure Time is an animated series that aired from 2010 through 2018. The series follows a human boy named Finn and his magical dog best friend, Jake. The two of them live in the Land of Ooo and are always going on awesome adventures together in order to save their friends in Ooo and stop evil.

The series may have ended, but HBO Max has announced plans for a special limited series of new episodes that will be airing sometime after the streaming services launches. For people that love shows that are slightly absurd and totally hilarious, Adventure Time is one to check out.

Legend Quest is a Mexican animated series that began airing in 2017 and has increased in popularity since being dubbed into English and listed on Netflix. The series follows a young boy named Leo who lives in a village in Mexico. When his village is attacked by strange creatures, he enlists his ghostly friends to help him before these creatures complete their plan to wipe humans off the Earth.

This series has a huge focus on mythology and legendary creatures from different cultures. For people that like fantasy and shows that follow a variety of different creatures and mythical animals, this series is definitely one to watch.

8 The Owl House (2020 – )

The Owl House is an animated series that premiered on the Disney Channel in 2020. The series follows a teen girl named Luz whose life changes dramatically after she accidentally travels through a portal and leaves her own world to go to a strange new realm.

Luz finds herself in a strange new world where she has to pretend to be a witch in order to avoid letting anyone know she’s simply a human. The more time she spends there, the more Luz dreams of becoming a witch herself and this magical series follows her time there.

7 Hilda (2018 – )

Hilda is an animated series that is based on a graphic novel series by the same name by Luke Pearson. This series began airing on Netflix as an exclusive new series for the streaming service in 2018.

Hilda follows a young girl by the same name who lives in a remote cabin in the woods with her mother. The series follows as she goes on a variety of adventures with her animal sidekicks, supernatural spirits, and other mysterious figures that live in the nearby city and in the woods by Hilda.

6 The Dragon Prince (2018 – )

The Dragon Prince is a Netflix original animated series that began airing on the streaming service in 2018. Three seasons have been released and a video game based on the series is currently in development which is definitely exciting news for anyone who enjoys this series and also loves playing games.

This fantasy series set in the world of Xadia. In Xadia, magic comes from six source – the sun, the moon, the stars, the sky, the Earth, and the ocean – but everything changes after humans create dark magic and begin killing magical creatures in order to harvest the ingredients they need to perform their dark spells.

5 Gravity Falls (2012 – 2016)

Gravity Falls is a animated series that aired on the Disney Channel from 2012 through 2016. This series may be one that aired on the Disney Channel, but it’s definitely still an animated series that can appeal to audiences of all ages.

Gravity Falls follows a pair of twins, Mabel and Dipper, who are sent away for the summer to stay with their great uncle, Grunkle Stan, in the mysterious town of Gravity Falls. There, Grunkle Stan runs a shop that is frequented by the tourists that are always visiting Gravity Falls. While staying there, Mabel and Dipper start to wonder what kind of secrets this town holds.

4 Star Vs. The Forces Of Evil (2015 – 2019)

Star vs. the Forces of Evil is an animated series that aired on the Disney Channel from 2015 through 2019. This series follows a young princess named Star Butterfly who receives a magic wand for her birthday, but when things go horribly wrong and Star proves she’s less than ready for powers, she’s sent to Earth to grow up.

While on Earth, Star moves in with the Diaz family and befriends their son, Marco. The two of them get to know each other and Marco begins to aid Star in her battles against the various evil forces that followed Star through the universe to Earth and threaten everything around her.

3 Twelve Forever (2019 – )

Twelve Forever is a Netflix original animated series that began airing on the streaming service in 2019. One of the creators of the series is known for their work on The Powerpuff Girls and other popular animated series. Unfortunately, it was announced that this show was on “hiatus” and plans for its future are uncertain, but the 25 episodes that did air are definitely worth checking out.

This series follows a 12-year-old named Reggie who wants nothing less than to grow up and be a teenager and eventually an adult. Growing up is definitely difficult, so this scenario is something a lot of people can relate to. In order to avoid her future responsibilities, Reggie invents an imaginary world called Endless where her childhood toys come to life.

2 Kipo And The Age Of Wonderbeasts (2020 – )

Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts is an animated series that began airing on Netflix in 2020. The series follows a 13-year-old girl named Kipo who finds herself forced to leave her underground home and search a post-apocalyptic wasteland for her father.

While on her adventure, she makes a new bunch of friends and the whole group travel together, trying to avoid the mutant animals and other dangers that now call the world home in this fantasy-adventure series.

1 The Hollow (2018 – )

The Hollow is a Netflix original animated series that follows a group of teenagers who wake up in a room with absolutely no memories of who they are, whether or not they know one another, or how they got there. This series premiered in 2018.

After leaving the mysterious bunker that they woke up in, this group of strangers is forced to travel through an unusual landscape, battling monsters and solving strange puzzles, in order to try to find their way back home safely.
