9 Rachael Ray’s Deal With Food Network Doesn’t Include Her Product Lines and Books

Interestingly, this matter only became public following Joanna and Chip Gaines’s decision to walk away from HGTV back in 2017. As it turns out, the network tends to issue restrictive contracts. And somehow, this is all because of Ray. Like HGTV, Food Network is also owned by Scripps. And when they signed on Ray, the network missed out on the opportunity to capitalize on Ray’s other businesses, including product lines.

A source told Page Six, “And so while Food Network turned Rachael Ray into a star, she made tens of millions and Scripps got none of it.”

8 The Production Crew Typically Gets Three Months Off

A national talk show such as the Rachael Ray show tends to film most of the year. Fortunately, the crew does get some time off between each season and this normally lasts for three months. This was something that Swoon Talent discovered while speaking with the show’s senior supervising producer, Joanna Sims.

The site also revealed that Sims commutes 120 hours each month for the job, something the rest of the crew probably does too. When asked about working with Ray, Sims remarked, “I’m inspired from what Rach is cooking in our What’s for Dinner Tonight? segments.”

When Ray’s team was preparing to move into the studio, a source told Page Six, “She ordered her staff to ‘sage the place.’” That said, Stewart was still using the space for Martha Stewart’s Cooking School when Ray and her team moved in.

5 The Show Once Kicked Out Martha Stewart Staffers From The Taping

As it turns out, things got even nastier between Ray and Stewart. At one point, Stewart’s staffers allegedly attended the show’s taping to spy on Ray. Nonetheless, they could’ve stuck around had they declared their real names.

“[The spies] were kicked out because they lied about their names,” a source told Page Six (via TMZ). “Otherwise, they would have been welcome to stop by.” Meanwhile, Stewart’s rep also clarified that the group wasn’t kicked out by Ray’s security guard. Instead, they were asked to leave by the show’s audience coordinator, who used to work for Stewart.

4 Show Audiences Are Not Allowed To Have Phones On Them

Just like on the Oprah show, where audiences have rules to follow, the Rachael Ray show also has some important guidelines for anyone who wants to watch the show live. One of its rules strictly prohibits the audience from using their phones.

“They have a strict no-phone policy,” a review on Yelp explained. “We were the third show of the day and we were told that multiple times.” As the OP mentions, this rule regarding mobile phones is also enforced by other shows. In fact, it’s one of the rules that Ellen makes her audience follow.

3 The Audience Are Required To Follow A Dress Code

Aside from the rule regarding the use of phones while taping is going on, the Rachael Ray show also has a strict rule when it comes to the audience’s dress code.

According to its website, “All audience members must follow a business casual dress code.” Moreover, the show also seems to have a preference for “solid, jewel-toned colors.” We’re talking about deep shades of green, red, and blue. 2 The Show Doesn’t Feed The Audience

However, in the holding area, there are usually some snacks and water provided. Meanwhile, one reviewer also revealed that they received prepackaged goodies when a guest on the show made gingerbread cookies.

1 The Pandemic Has Forced The Show To Film From Home

The current situation has certainly made it difficult for various television shows and movies to continue production. When it comes to the Rachael Ray show, a decision was made for Ray to keep filming away from the studio.

Back in October, a spokesperson for CBS Television Productions, who produces the show with Discovery Productions and Harpo Studios, told Variety, “As we moved into fall, with COVID cases increasing, we made the difficult decision to continue to shoot the show from Rachael’s home for the foreseeable future.”
