With Spider-Man: No Way Home coming to theaters on December 17th, viewers anticipate Spider-Man will impress his allies, enemies, and others around him once again. While people commonly speak well of Spider-Man, some compliments are more noteworthy than others.

H.E.R.B.I.E. is a helpful robot created by Mister Fantastic. In Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #309, H.E.R.B.I.E. tells the Human Torch that their mutual friend, Spider-Man, is “deeply heroic,” and adds that Spider-Man is “truly the best of us.”

Some may say kind words from a robot aren’t meaningful. However, calling Spidey the best means a lot coming from H.E.R.B.I.E. The robot accompanied some of the greatest superheroes in existence, including Franklin Richards, an Omega Level mutant.

Her telling him that he’s the most selfless man on Earth is exactly what would make him feel appreciated and loved. It was an honest and accurate title that most people wouldn’t be deserving.

However, Peter’s consciousness and memories stayed deep within. When Otto failed to be the Spider-Man that the world and his loved ones needed him to be, Peter began to regain control. In Superior Spider-Man #30, Otto gives Peter Parker his original body back, admitting that Peter is “the Superior Spider-Man.” This was monumental because Otto only came to realize it after getting to know Peter down to his inner thoughts and feeling.

In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Tony Stark gives Peter a stern talking-to for going over his head with a mission. When Peter said he did it because he wanted to be like Tony, Tony replied that he wanted Peter “to be better” than him.

The comment comes across as a little harsh at first. Upon second thought, however, these words are really very endearing. Iron Man reveals to Spider-Man that he has the potential to be better than him. It’s a strong way to tell Spider-Man how great he is, especially coming from someone as confident, powerful, and brilliant as Tony Stark.

Captain America’s response is that “Spider-Man’s a hero.” Cap admits there may be some reasons that people aren’t fond of Spider-Man. However, Rogers goes on to say that, in his opinion, Spider-Man is “one of the greatest men” he’s ever known. Not everyone in Marvel canon can say they’ve had the honor of having that kind of approval from Captain America himself.
