In the world of Disney, the sidekick is always on hand to either help the hero or serve the villain. Whether they’re there for cuteness or comic relief, sidekick characters have always been beloved by fans across the years, remaining memorable partially due to some terrific quotes.
As Disney sidekicks are often comedic, some of the quotes that best represent them are found in the funniest lines of their movie. Other sidekicks are more level-headed and on hand to offer advice when needed. Or perhaps when it comes to the hero’s sidekick, the quote that most sums up their personality is an expression of love, loyalty, and friendship.
Sir Hiss

The greedy Prince John has two main sidekicks in Disney’s Robin Hood, and one is the simpering snake, Sir Hiss. Although a loyal sidekick to the infantile Prince, Hiss was the only villain that showed constant competence and intelligence. His entire time on screen is a moment when a Disney sidekick is smarter than the villain.
Hiss is smart and he likes to let people know it, even his own boss. When Prince John is the victim of Robin’s tricks not once but twice, gone is the sniveling suck-up act, and Hiss exasperatedly yet arrogantly declares “I tried to warn you but no, no, no, you didn’t listen.” The quote not only sums up Hiss’s personality but is his most memorable quote.
Sebastian
“You Want Something Done, You’ve Got To Do It Yourself.”
Sebastian is the long-suffering yet loyal subject of King Triton, who is appointed to supervise Ariel against his will in The Little Mermaid. The little red crab may be uptight and controlling but he cares for Ariel and also shows a free-spirited side, particularly when it comes to music.
As a result, the quote that best reflects Sebastian is when he irritably declares “You want something done, you’ve got to do it yourself!” before jumping in to set the mood for romance with one of the many beloved songs “Kiss the Girl” to help Ariel and Eric achieve their kiss.
Lumiere

In Beauty and the Beast, the Beast’s numerous servants also fell victim to the curse and became household objects. One of the most prominent is Lumiere, the charming candelabra who gives Belle the warmest welcome in the form of the unforgettable musical number “Be Our Guest”, which is perhaps the best song in Beauty and the Beast.
Lumiere is the perfect host – selfless, warm, and hospitable – and is also something of a ladies’ man. So this is why the moment when he is giving Beast advice on what to give to Belle is the quote that summarizes Lumiere’s personality. Contradicting Cogsworth’s more efficient yet less thoughtful suggestion of “flowers, chocolates, promises you don’t intend to keep”, Lumiere’s line perfectly reflects his giving and thoughtful nature, as well as demonstrating just how much of a romantic he is.

The Genie did not seem to have any prior relationships with his former masters but he soon grows fond of Aladdin and the two form a strong friendship. It shows his weaknesses as a slave to the Lamp, his comedic one-liners, and his strong loyalty towards Aladdin all in one quote.
Timon And Pumbaa

Timon and Pumbaa are the comedic duo of The Lion King. The two find a young and weakened Simba and decide to befriend him, teaching him their way of life through one of Disney’s most beloved songs “Hakuna Matata”, a phrase Disney fans live by.
Whilst “Hakuna Matata” is their signature motto that shows their carefree lifestyle, the dynamics of the pair are best summed up when, after deciding to help Simba, Timon asks Pumbaa “who’s the brains of this outfit?”, to which Pumbaa responds with a slow “Uh…” Meerkat Timon is the quick-thinker and bossier of the pair, whereas Pumbaa is slower and gentler by nature, and this moment couldn’t capture that more perfectly.
Pain And Panic
“Pain! Ow! And Panic! Reporting For Duty!”
Pain and Panic are the bumbling imp henchmen to Hades, the hot-headed Lord of the Underworld from Hercules. It is due to failing their mission to kill the infant Hercules that Hades has to take matters into his own hands.
Pain and Panic’s first moment on screen summarizes their personalities perfectly. They are immediately shown as clumsy and funny, with Pain hurting himself by falling down the stairs and Panic freaking out at the sound of Hades yelling his name, both very much living up to their names. Even the moment they stand for duty before Hades and chorus “Reporting for duty!” signifies that they are certainly not going to be efficient and serious minions.
Mushu
“I’m Travel Sized For Your Convenience.”
A disgraced and demoted former family guardian, wise-cracking dragon Mushu offers to help Mulan to become a war hero for his own personal gain. But over time, he grows to care for Mulan and helps her out of loyalty.
Mushu is a small dragon with a large personality. He has a number of memorable, laugh-out-loud quotes and is perhaps the most quoted character from the movie. But the quote that perhaps best reflects his personality is when he first reveals himself to a confused Mulan. The line is not only funny but emphasizes his self-assurance and confidence, and he proves to be more than just for Mulan’s “convenience” – he proves to be her best ally.
Kronk
“Break It Down? Are You Kidding Me? This Is Hand-Carved Mahogany!”
As far as Disney villain sidekicks go, Kronk from The Emperor’s New Groove is easily the most good-hearted. His lack of intelligence is made up for by his optimistic and well-meaning nature. It’s little wonder Kronk is considered one of the best himbos in movies and television.
Although physically strong and a villain’s sidekick, Kronk enjoys the gentler side of life such as cooking, crafts, and woodland creatures. When ordered by Yzma to break down the door in Pacha’s home, Kronk refuses because the door “is hand-carved mahogany.” This moment shows just how good and considerate Kronk is of others as well as appreciative of anything handmade, whether it’s food or doors.
Olaf
“Some People Are Worth Melting For.”
Olaf is the rotund happy-go-lucky snowman bought to life by Elsa in Frozen. As the main source of comedy in the franchise, Olaf has proven himself to be one of Disney’s most popular sidekicks. As a result, he’s starring in his own Disney+ movie Olaf Presents.
Ironically for a snowman, Olaf is warm-hearted and he cares deeply for his friends. This is most evident when he moves a freezing Anna to the fire, putting his own life at risk. The quote “some people are worth melting for” is not only fitting for the loving snowman but serves as one of the movie’s signature quotes.
Baymax
“It Is Alright To Cry. Crying Is An Natural Response To Pain.”
The marshmallow-like robot Baymax has become one of Disney’s most popular characters since appearing in Big Hero 6. Programmed as a personal healthcare robot, Baymax proves to be a very wholesome character and a loyal sidekick to Hiro and the Big Hero 6 team.
As he is a programmed robot, Baymax has a number of repeated phrases. But there are moments where he speaks in response to what is happening around him, including a moment whenever Hiro has a minor accident. Baymax’s response is a great illustration of his status as a personal healthcare robot but it also shows a glimmer of independence and shows that he is a very caring and loving sidekick.
