Harry Potter is full of many side characters who don’t get all that much time in the book or on-screen. Cho Chang is one of the students that Harry went to school with who he interacted with a fair amount during his time at Hogwarts. While she wasn’t a main character in the books or the movies, she did get a little more focus and information given about her in the books. For movie fans, they might not even know some of the more interesting things about her. Here are ten important things about Cho Chang that the Harry Potter movies leave out.

10 Her Parents Didn’t Want Her To Join Dumbledore’s Army

When Harry, Ron, and Hermione started Dumbledore’s Army in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, many of the students are a bit leery to join up. Some of the reservations were because of Harry, and some were because of their families. Cho’s parents worked for the Ministry and advised Cho to stay on Umbridge’s good side. But, despite this, Cho was eager to join anyway after what happened to Cedric.

9 She Didn’t Betray Dumbledore’s Army

While in the movies it’s Cho who betrays the DA to Umbridge, this isn’t how it goes down in the books. While this might have made the story simpler for the films, it really did Cho a disservice. It was really Cho’s friend, Marietta Edgecombe, who told Umbridge. While Cho remained loyal to her friend, she was also loyal to the DA and even came back to fight in the Battle of Hogwarts.

8 She Was A Quidditch Fan From The Age Of Six

One thing about Cho that is made apparent in the books is that she loves Quidditch. For both movie and book fans alike, however, they might not realize how deep this love runs. According to the Harry Potter wiki, Cho was actually a huge fan of the sport from a young age. This is likely why she was on the Ravenclaw team when she was in school, as she’d been preparing to play the sport for many years.

7 Harry Started Crushing On Cho In His Third Year

While the movies introduce Cho during Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, she’s introduced in the books the year before. It’s during Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban that Harry notices how pretty she is and starts to develop a small crush on her. Her skill on the Quidditch field likely contributes to this. While she doesn’t play much of a role in the books until Goblet of Fire, Harry is aware of her before then.

6 Her Favorite Quidditch Team Was The Tutshill Tornados

There are a lot of professional and semi-professional Quidditch teams in the wizarding world. Some of these are mentioned throughout the books. The most often mentioned is the Chudley Cannons, Ron’s favorite team. But, many of the other studies have their favorite team that they route for. Cho’s team is mentioned in the books to be the Tutshill Tornados, a fact that Ron isn’t particularly fond of.

5 She Was Crying The First Time She Kissed Harry

In the movies, the kiss between Harry and Cho is a little more romantic than it is in the books. While in the movie it’s a more typical cinematic kiss, in the books, it’s more realistically awkward. The two do share their first kiss in the Room of Requirement, but Cho is crying about Cedric at the time. It’s this fact that makes Harry feel awkward about the kiss and to tell Ron and Hermione that it was “wet.”

4 She Went On A Date With Harry To A Tea Shop

In the movies, many of the scenes between Harry and Cho are cut out. In the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix book, Harry and Cho actually go on an official date together. The date happens in Hogsmeade at Madam Puddifoot’s Tea Shop. The date is, unfortunately, a bit of a disaster. Cho gets jealous of Hermione when Harry says he has to leave to go meet her, and Cho is also still emotional over losing Cedric. Overall, the two don’t hit it off well, and their relationship didn’t progress further than that.

3 She Was A Popular Student

It’s definitely somewhat implied in the movies, but even more so in the books, that Cho Chang is a popular student. It’s mentioned a couple of different times that she is an attractive person. Plus, she dates two rather popular boys in the school, those being the Captain of the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, Roger Davies, then, Cedric Diggory, who was a seeker, prefect, and a Triwizard Champion. Cho’s position on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team also contributed to her being a well-known and liked student around the school.

2 She Married A Muggle

After the Harry Potter books ended, Rowling gave some information about various characters and what happened to them. Some characters got more story given to them than others. The details about Cho Chang’s life in adulthood are pretty minimal. The only thing Rowling said was that she married a Muggle. As far as career and if she had kids or not, there is no official word.

1 She Was Ravenclaw’s Seeker

One of the biggest things about Cho as a Hogwarts student that is left out of the movies is the fact that she played Seeker for the Ravenclaw team. The movies weren’t able to show near as many Quidditch matches, so this aspect of her character was left out. It’s kind of a shame, however, as she was noted to be a good flyer. While she couldn’t beat Harry given the fact she had a much older broom, Harry noted she was a strategic player and good Seeker. Unfortunately, the movies didn’t showcase her skills on the field.
