10 Detective Bullock Is A Character Fans Love To Hate

10 Most Disliked Characters In Batman The Animated Series Ranked

Detective Harvey Bullock acted as a foil to Commissioner Gordon. While Gordon allowed Batman to enter crime scenes, take evidence, and consult on cases, Bullock was adamantly against vigilantes’ involvement and was ready to come to blows with the Dark Knight.

Fans didn’t dislike Bullock’s presence but he was a character they were always meant to dislike. Bullock opposed the hero, so it makes sense that fans would side against him. Despite his loud, obnoxious demeanor, Bullock is a memorable, often courageous, character who fans either hate to love or love to hate.

10 Most Disliked Characters In Batman The Animated Series Ranked

Hamilton Hill was Gotham City’s mayor for the duration of Batman: The Animated Series, and during that time he made quite a few enemies. When Commissioner Gordon refused to pursue Batman, Hill gave Bullock and squads of heavily-armed officers the green light for a vigilante hunt.

Hill was on the receiving end of the Clock King’s wrath after making him late for a court date years earlier, and he was one of several people targeted by Lock-Up in Season 3. In Season 1’s “Be a Clown” episode, Hill ignored his son’s interest in magic. Jordan ran away from home, unknowingly stowing away with the Joker. Hill was no villain, but his actions helped create a few.

8 Sherman & Roberta Stole The Spotlight But Not In A Good Way

10 Most Disliked Characters In Batman The Animated Series Ranked

Sherman and Roberta were two kids living in Gotham City who aspired to be great detectives. They were huge fans of Batman and chose to protect the Dark Knight from the Penguin. The duo first appeared in “I’ve Got Batman in My Basement,” usually considered one of Batman: The Animated Series’ worst episodes.

Sherman and Roberta are the stars of this episode, but they’re boring and annoying. The fact they confound the Penguin hurts the villain’s legitimacy as well. The episode “Legends of the Dark Knight” would later present a more entertaining group of kids who admired Batman and added more to the show’s legacy.

7 Roland Daggett Corrupted Gotham City

10 Most Disliked Characters In Batman The Animated Series Ranked

Roland Daggett was a crime boss who ran Daggett Industries. Daggett was often depicted as merciless and was never concerned with how his business ventures would affect others. He indirectly led to the Clayface’s creation and Catwoman’s poisoning and he nearly dynamited a section of Gotham City that was still occupied by residents.

As the series progressed, Daggett’s criminal value diminished. He appeared in far fewer episodes after Season 1, as the show focused more on Batman and Robin’s partnership and their pursuit of costumed criminals.

6 The Terrible Trio Were Narratively Weak Villains

10 Most Disliked Characters In Batman The Animated Series Ranked

The Terrible Trio is the name of a group of three rich men who met in a fraternity at Gotham University. They each adopted one of three animal identities: the Fox, the Shark, and the Vulture. They committed a series of robberies, mostly for thrills, until one of them attempted to murder his girlfriend after she discovered their secret.

The Terrible Trio was forgettable in the grand scheme of Batman: The Animated Series. They only appeared in one episode and their characteristics and motivations were thin compared to some of the show’s masterclass villains, like the Scarecrow or the Mad Hatter.

5 Sal Valestra Was One Of The Phantasm’s Targets

10 Most Disliked Characters In Batman The Animated Series Ranked

Salvatore Valestra first appeared in the Batman: Mask of the Phantasm animated movie. As a boss in Gotham’s underworld, Valestra was responsible for Carl Beaumont’s death. Years later, the mysterious Phantasm returned to Gotham, seeking revenge on Valestra and his gang.

Mask of the Phantasm is one of Batman’s greatest animated films. The plot is rich, delving into Batman’s origins, and the murder scenes are truly haunting. Valestra himself was a cruel man who threatened Andrea Beaumont’s life and later turned to the Joker for help. The Joker ultimately poisoned Valestra and used him as bait for the Phantasm.

He hired a woman he dubbed “Fake Harley.” Harley Quinn was an original character created for BTAS and her story arc over the course of the series was incredible. 3 Maxie Zeus Believed He Was Really A Greek God

10 Most Disliked Characters In Batman The Animated Series Ranked

Maximillian Zeus ran a shipping company before succumbing to the belief that he was actually his namesake Greek god. Maxie Zeus often ranted and made loud declarations of power and authority. The businessman intended to rule Gotham City as if the city were Olympus. His misperceptions were sometimes humorous, referring to Batman as Hades, but quickly became annoying for both Batman and his fans.

Ultimately, Zeus was locked away in Arkham Asylum, amongst Batman’s deadliest foes. As he passed each villain, he saw them as members of the Greek pantheon, referring to Poison Ivy as Demeter, and to the Joker as Hermes, trickster of the gods.

2 Batman Was Tempted To Kill The Sewer King

10 Most Disliked Characters In Batman The Animated Series Ranked

The Sewer King is not only one of the worst villains in the series, but he’s also a villain with no redeeming qualities. Harley may work for the Joker, but fans eventually learned that she developed an infatuation for him that clouded her judgment. Mr. Freeze may seek revenge, but it’s out of his love for his wife.

The Sewer King, however, lives in the sewers and kidnaps orphaned children, forcing them to pickpocket Gotham’s residents. When Batman finally tracks him down, he reluctantly rescues the Sewer King from an oncoming train, saying that just this once, he wishes he could pass judgment himself.

1 Boss Biggis Was An Irredeemable Caricature

Boss Biggis appeared in the episode titled “The Forgotten.” Thankfully, that was his first and only appearance in Batman: The Animated Series. Biggis was an absolutely horrible human being with no redeeming qualities. Even long-time Batman villains like Two-Face and the Riddler feel more salvageable than Biggis.

Biggis was a criminal who oversaw a slave camp. His employees kidnapped people living on the streets of Gotham and forced them to mine for gold outside the city. Luckily, they accidentally kidnapped a disguised Bruce Wayne. Biggis was easily one of the most disliked villains in the series and one of the show’s most disliked characters overall.
