10 Pixar Supporting Characters That Deserve Solo Movies

Pixar has created some of the most heartwarming, emotional, and interesting stories and characters since the company first burst onto the scene. Taking the animation genre to a totally new level, Pixar has made countless iconic characters to be the focus of their films.

Whether it be Woody, Lightning McQueen, or Mike and Sully, Pixar’s leading stars are always incredibly well detailed. However, one of the main reasons Pixar films are so successful is because it isn’t just the leading roles that have been heavily defined.

The supporting characters get a lot of love and attention as well, becoming just as popular along the way. Because of that, and the success of Finding Dory, many fans now want to see some of those characters gain their own spin-off movies at some point in the future. Here are 10 supporting Pixar characters that deserve their own films.

10 Ernesto de la Cruz (Coco)

In the end, it transpired that Ernesto de la Cruz was actually the villain of the popular movie, Coco, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t an interesting character. Ernesto de la Cruz had a very interesting story that we didn’t get to fully dive into throughout the movie.

Therefore giving him his own film would be a way of doing that, while continuing to develop the world of Coco, which fans would be more than happy to see. Looking at what he did after killing his best friend and how he built up his legacy could be a whole lot of fun to see played out.

9 The Brothers (Brave)

Harris, Hubert, and Hamish bring a lot of comedy to Brave, whether it’s as three cute toddlers or as three bear cubs. They’re always causing mischief no matter what they do, and they always seem to get away with it due to their cheekiness and cuteness.

They were popular characters from the film, and continuing to follow their journey in more detail could make for a fun movie. The setting of Brave has a world of potential for Pixar to do more with it, and hopefully down the line that’s exactly what they will do.

8 Circus Bugs (A Bugs Life)

10 Pixar Supporting Characters That Deserve Solo Movies

A Bugs Life is a criminally underrated Pixar movie that might not be as polished with technology as later films, but certainly has the story and characters to stand up to any of Pixar’s best. The film focuses on Flik as he tries to deal with their grasshopper problem, eventually bringing in a group of circus bugs who he mistakes for warriors.

While the circus bugs are only around as supporting characters, they bring a lot to the movie. Their differing personalities really make for an interesting dynamic, and telling a new story just based around them, either pre or post-meeting Flik would be amazing.

7 Crabby (Cars 2)

10 Pixar Supporting Characters That Deserve Solo Movies

The Cars franchise is one that has been heavily explored by Pixar with three movies and two spin-off Planes films, but there is certainly more Pixar could do with this world. One avenue they could take is by heading out to sea through the character Crabby.

He is a boat that makes a fairly brief appearance in Cars 2 but is someone that has been showcased in this world. Taking a story with him and other boats, potentially even some sea life as well would be a very interesting idea and could open up a whole new world for Pixar to explore.

6 Crush (Finding Nemo)

We have already had one supporting character get their own spin-off movie through Finding Dory, and because that was a success it opens up the potential for more. One character that would be ideal for their own movie is the popular turtle, Crush.

He brought tons of fun into Finding Nemo, and learning more about him could be a lot of fun. Considering we already know him and his son fairly well, it would be easy for Pixar to jump back into this world and explore things from Crush’s perspective.

5 Boo (Monsters Inc)

10 Pixar Supporting Characters That Deserve Solo Movies

While Boo is an essential part of the Monsters Inc story, she isn’t one of the main characters. However, she became beloved by Pixar fans and because of the way the film ends, everybody wants to know exactly what happens to her in the future.

Does she see Sully again? Does she manage to get back to the monster world? Does she remember any of it? All of these questions could be answered in a spin-off movie, perhaps with Boo a little older, trying to get back to that world to find her monster friends again.

4 Ellie (Up)

10 Pixar Supporting Characters That Deserve Solo Movies

Carl and Ellie’s love story is amazingly shown in what remains Pixar’s most emotional scene to kickstart Up. While we get a great glimpse at how amazing Ellie seems to be as a person, we never get to know her properly, and that’s something that Pixar could remedy with her own movie.

Going back to the world of Up, looking back to the past and detailing some of her adventures with Carl would be a lot of fun. She’s a character fans love without knowing too much about, so exploring that would go down very well.

3 Jessie (Toy Story 2, 3, & 4)

10 Pixar Supporting Characters That Deserve Solo Movies

Jessie is a major part of the Toy Story franchise, and while she does get a big focus in Toy Story 2, her influence on the story dwindles as they progress. However, she has always been a popular character and one that has a very interesting backstory.

We have seen glimpses of her life in the past in an emotional scene from Toy Story 2, but taking that further could be interesting. Finishing the film with when she ends up with Al before Woody arrives would tie this into the rest of the franchise, which remains as popular as ever.

2 Frozone (The Incredibles)

10 Pixar Supporting Characters That Deserve Solo Movies

When it comes to superheroes it is very easy to make spin-off movies, and that’s why Frozone would be a perfect character to get his own film. He is the family friend of The Incredibles with the ability to freeze things, and he pops up in both movies to help them out.

Voiced by Samuel L. Jackson, the character has proven to be very popular with fans. He brings some great comedy to the movies and he has a massive personality. Perhaps showing his origin story and ending with him meeting The Incredibles would be a great way to tie this film in with the franchise.

1 Bing-Bong (Inside Out)

Inside Out was a huge hit for Pixar and is an absolutely amazing movie that takes us into the head of young Riley, discovering her emotions and exactly how the brain works in this world. One of the characters we get to meet throughout the film is Riley’s imaginary friend, Bing-Bong, who brings tons of joy to the movie.

While he gets an incredibly sad ending, he remained a very popular character. Having his own film would be something that Pixar fans could easily get behind, showing him inside her head with other characters, but also interacting with a young Riley.
