10 Small Details You Only Notice Replaying The Witcher 3

IGN’s 2015 Game of The Year, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, was the much-anticipated sequel to 2011’s The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Based on the fantasy novel series The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski. This action role-playing game follows a monster-hunting Witcher by the name of Geralt of Rivia as he travels across the game-world, simply known as “The Continent,” killing monsters for coin and occasionally bedding princesses, who have a thing for silver-haired anti-social, blood-soaked, monster murdering mercenaries.

The world of The Witcher 3 is enormous but if you have already finished the game, you might have missed some interesting side-quests and details along the way. So, let us count down the 10 hidden details in The Witcher 3, players might have missed.

10 Carnal Sins Request

One obvious thing, whether you’ve played the Witcher video games or just seen Netflix’s The Witcher, Geralt is quite thorough in his line of work.

One such instance can be found in the Carnal Sins quest in Novrigrad, where Geralt and Dr. Joachim Von Gratz must inspect a dead male body. Geralt asks to check the dead man’s genitals for evidence of what killed him. The doctor agrees to show him but if Geralt asks to see them for a second time, the doctor responds “I see. You clearly find gonads fascinating. I fear, I don’t share your passion.”

9 Trial Of The Grasses Cave

One of the more interesting aspects of Geralt is his mysterious backstory of being raised by Witchers and forced to undergo body-altering mutagens that not only changed the color of his hair but, basically made him immortal.

Northwest of Kaer Morhen, players will find a cave. Apparently, this was the cave where Geralt underwent the Trial of the Grasses, beginning his journey as a Witcher. Upon arriving at the cave, he speaks a little bit about the deadliness of the trials and how few children survived the chemicals’ effects on their bodies.

8 Leo’s Grave In Kaer Morhen

After exiting the cave where Geralt’s Witcher trials took place, players will find just south of the abandoned Witcher Fortress, Kaer Morhen and on a hill nearby, Leo’s grave marker. For those, who have not read the books or played previous games, Leo was a young Witcher who hadn’t even passed the trials before his untimely death protecting the Witcher fortress from attack.

His death was a blow to Geralt, as they shared a common bond. A bond that Geralt still carries with him. After arriving at the grave, Geralt will say “Leo’s grave…A senseless death, could’ve been avoided.”

7 Hill Figures In Skellige

One of the more fascinating aspects of The Witcher 3 involves the seemingly endless amount of time you can spend searching the countryside or looting monsters down hidden pathways.

On the Skellige Archipelago, close to a lake north of Rogne, players will notice a rock formation on the ground, only to uncover once further away, that the formation is actually an image of two people on the side of the hill. Various other mysterious rock formations can be found throughout this region. Some of these formations resemble people, others boats and animals.

6 Extra Dialogue Option in The Elusive Thief Contract

One thing that brings the world of The Witcher 3 alive is that on certain occasions, depending on what quests you have already completed, new dialogue options appear.

During the Elusive Thief quest, if you have completed the mission Count Reuven’s Treasure but have not completed The Play’s The Thing, you will receive a third option of dialogue after catching the doppelganger. This option tells the doppelganger you will spare him if he will do you a favor in assisting Geralt in the rescue of Dandelion. He declines your offer and attempts to flee.

5 Finding Tyrion Lannister’s Body

Once on the Skellige Isles, sail to Prison Island, where you will find a fortress guarded by pirates. After defeating the pirates, enter the fortress and go into the dungeon. Unlock the middle cell that looks oddly like the same sky cell in the Eyrie that Tyrion Lannister escaped from.

You will even find a body that looks exactly like Tyrion, face scars and all. After examining the body, Geralt will mention how nice the sky cell is and, remarks about how much it was a shame that the prisoner didn’t know how to fly.

4 A Poet Under Pressure Quest

Dandelion is less Geralt’s friend, as he is his sidekick. He smooths out the rougher sides of the Witcher, with his quick wit and soothing songs. However, when he is kidnapped by a witch hunter, Geralt is forced to fight the convoy carrying him.

After defeating the attackers, dismount from your horse and follow the hoof prints or you can follow Dandelion’s scent. On the path, players will find a signet ring and some of his writings that can be looted. Geralt also makes a quip about Dandelion’s extreme use of Nuits de Beauclair perfume.

3 Farting Cave Trolls

While Geralt might not be known for his humor, The Witcher series has always been notorious for its sometimes-juvenile attempts at humor. One of these attempts can be found on the road that follows in between Arinbjorn and Kaer Muire in the Skellige region.

An unmarked cave entrance can be found with 3 rock trolls having a conversation about onions, rotten meat, and smelly farts. Sadly, when they notice they are not alone, they proceed to be unwelcoming hosts. Once you kill the trolls, you can explore the cave, looting its hidden treasure.

2 Nilfgaardian Camp

Like farting cave trolls, Nilfgaardian soldiers have a reputation of being unkind to not only outsiders but, to their neighbors. Fans of the book series, Netflix show, and The Witcher video games know all too well, about how their attempts to conquer the continent have led to too many bloody conflicts, some involving Geralt himself.

To the southeast of Kimbolt Way, in the region of Crookback Bog, a Nilfgaardian encampment can be seen and even entered if you have the right armor. Though, don’t be surprised if Geralt is not welcomed for long; he never is.

1 For The Advancement Of Learning Secondary Quest

For the Advancement of Learning quest, Geralt confronts Keira who is coming out of a tower on Fyke’s Island, holding in her hand, Alexander’s notes on how to cure the Catriona plague. She intends to sell them to King Radovid for a pardon.

Initially, the player has two options: kill her for the notes or let her go, but, if the player chooses the dialogue “Radovid never forgets” a third option takes place, one in which Geralt convinces her to take the notes and go to Kaer Morhen. This option is the only option in which Keira survives the encounter.
