10 Worst Val Kilmer Movies Ever Ranked (According To IMDB)

Val Kilmer is one of the most interesting actors to have ever started work in Hollywood. At the height of his career, he was truly one of the stars in the film firmament. However, as his career advanced, he starred in some pretty bad movies, and by this point it’s actually been a while since he was in a film that received anything else than critical disdain.

To make matters worse, the lion’s share of his recent films have actually been released straight to DVD, and it seems like his name doesn’t have quite the value it used to. Here are ten of the worst-rated Val Kilmer movies, according to IMDb.

10 Moscow Zero (2006)- 3.0

10 Worst Val Kilmer Movies Ever Ranked (According To IMDB)

You know it’s a bad sign of a film’s quality (or lack thereof) when it’s released direct to DVD rather than being pushed out to theaters. That is definitely the case with Moscow Zero, a film about, no joke, a group of men who attempt to rescue someone from the bowels of Moscow, all while battling demons. The production values are about as awful as you might expect, and Val Kilmer really seems to be phoning in his performance. Given how sublimely awful the screenplay is, you can’t really blame him.

9 Seven Below (2012)- 3.1

10 Worst Val Kilmer Movies Ever Ranked (According To IMDB)

Val Kilmer appears to have decided that the 2000s and 2010s were going to be the decades that he acted almost exclusively in low-budget horror movies. This film is about a group of strangers who get trapped in a home that seems to be caught in some sort time warp.

Once again, Val Kilmer really doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing in the film, though he gives at least a fairly decent performance. Frankly, there isn’t anything very positive to say about this film. Some things just need to be left in the past.

8 1st Born (2018)- 3.2

10 Worst Val Kilmer Movies Ever Ranked (According To IMDB)

Sometimes, it’s easy to forget that Val Kilmer, despite the quality of the films that he appears in, was at one point a very good actor. That is on display in this film, which is about two men who have to join forces to save the life of their grandchild. Though it is a very weak film in terms of its screenplay, there are some genuinely amusing moments, and it shows that, despite the fact that his career has fallen on hard times, Val Kilmer still has a little bit of the old magic left.

7 Summer Love (2006)- 3.6

10 Worst Val Kilmer Movies Ever Ranked (According To IMDB)

The mid-2000s was something of a golden age for films being released directly to DVD, and Val Kilmer seems to have decided that was where he wanted his career to live. Summer Love, alternatively titled Dead Man’s Bounty, is something of a western, though given how sublimely awful the film is it’s truly hard to tell exactly what’s going on or what went through the filmmaker’s mind during the filming process. It’s pretty obvious that Val Kilmer just wanted to make some money and so was willing to lend his name to the film.

6 Gun (2010)- 3.7

10 Worst Val Kilmer Movies Ever Ranked (According To IMDB)

You know a film is going to be… something… when it stars 50 Cent and is released straight to DVD. The action film genre is one that, as a rule, benefits from being shown on a big screen, and so it’s possible that this film would have been better had it been made with the theater in mind.

It’s good as far as it goes, but it seems to lack the fundamental bite and kinetic energy that one expects from an action film. For his part, Val Kilmer just doesn’t seem to be that interested in his role.

5 The Love Guru (2008)- 3.8

10 Worst Val Kilmer Movies Ever Ranked (According To IMDB)

Sometimes, there is a film that is just so incredibly bad that you can’t help but enjoy it. This, The Love Guru, is one of those films. One has to wonder, though, why it is that someone like Val Kilmer would decide to appear in this film, but he does appear in an uncredited cameo (as himself, of course). It really says something about the quality of this film — particularly the writing — that his appearance is one of the highlights of what is otherwise a truly strange and unpleasant viewing experience.

4 The Steam Experiment (2009)- 3.9

10 Worst Val Kilmer Movies Ever Ranked (According To IMDB)

As with so many other of Val Kilmer’s outings in the 2000s, this one was released straight to DVD. Unlike the others, though, this one seems to actually have some quality. In it, Kilmer stars as a man who says that he has imprisoned a group of young people in a sauna in order to prove his own crazy theories about global warming and its consequences for civilization. He definitely owns the role, and it’s easy to believe that he is what he appears to be. Other than that, the film is forgettable.

3 The Traveler (2010)- 4.1

10 Worst Val Kilmer Movies Ever Ranked (According To IMDB)

There’s a lot to be said about this film, which combines the genres of horror and cop dramas. Val Kilmer plays a man who enters a police station and begins a course of events that leads to several dead policemen. Though it is, unfortunately, a deeply flawed film — and in some places rather predictable — it also has something compelling to say about the nature of police brutality against possibly innocent suspects. Val Kilmer delivers a disturbing performance, showing that given the right material he still has the making of a star.

2 Riddle (2013)- 4.1

10 Worst Val Kilmer Movies Ever Ranked (According To IMDB)

This mystery-thriller film (released straight to DVD, of course), has Val Kilmer in the role of a small-town sheriff who is resistant to the efforts of a young woman to both reconnect with her younger brother and uncover the secrets that the town is trying to keep out of the public gaze. The film has some genuinely chilling moments, and while the mystery is rather easily solved, that doesn’t detract from the aura of menace that hangs over the film. Val Kilmer ably performs the role of the sinister sheriff.

1 Delgo (2008)- 4.3

This is one of those films that seems really great in concept but is quite flawed in execution. It’s a computer-animated film, and the visuals are actually rather gorgeous. Val Kilmer lends his voice as General Bogardus. Despite the film’s unique animation style, as the critics pointed out, it is something of a retread of many earlier fantasy films. It was widely panned by critics, and it was a significant disappointment at the box office. Even the highest of artistic ambitions wasn’t enough to save this film from ignominy.
