90 Day Fiancé Why Steven & Alina Getting Married Doesnt Surprise Fans

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 3 couple Steven Johnston and Alina Skordanova got married in the finale, and while a lot of viewers are disappointed, not many are surprised either. The young and naïve Alina traveled to Turkey with Steven to marry him, but finding out he had lied to her several times made viewers lose faith in their relationship. Despite Steven admitting to cheating and even failing her loyalty test, Alina said yes to his yacht proposal, marrying Steven in episode 14. Some 90 Day Fiancé viewers are calling it the biggest mistake of the season, and others have declared Alina is desperate.

Steven has given 90 Day Fiancé viewers ample reasons to not trust him or see him as an ideal match for Alina. While he initially seemed completely underprepared for a wedding, Steven shocked audiences by revealing he wanted to sign a prenup with Alina. Viewers wondered about what secret assets Steven was hiding when Alina was the one who’d sacrificed everything back home for the Utah native. He was caught being a hypocrite by Alina who he wanted to convert to Mormonism even though he does not live by what he preaches. Moreover, Steven was accused of sending naughty messages to girls online despite deleting his social media accounts right before Alina’s eyes.

Still, Alina appeared so smitten by Steven’s charms that she even went against her mother Anna’s advice and married him anyway. Firstly, 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way viewers think it’s because Alina is so innocent and lacks experience. Obviously, Alina is very intelligent, but this being her first proper relationship explains why she doesn’t worry about the red flags and keeps accepting Steven’s apologies. Alina is a fan of fairytales, and Steven has made himself appear like the perfect Prince Charming to her. However, there are viewers who also suspect Alina is simply hellbent on getting married and who she marries doesn’t matter to her.

Throughout 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Alina had several opportunities to run that she didn’t take. However, it’s highly likely Alina suffers from “I can change him syndrome,” meaning she thinks she can fix anything incorrect in Steven once she becomes his wife. After all, Alina admitted Steven going back to America without getting married within three months would have made him cheat again. Alina was sure marriage would make Steven a changed man. However, this cynical behavior by Alina might make her end up divorced in her next 90 Day Fiancé spin-off or lead her to the next season of 90 Day: The Single Life.

The overall situation of Steven and Alina in 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way at times feels so ridiculous that some viewers have concluded it’s scripted. Steven couldn’t even follow his own commandments during the time viewers spent watching him on their screens. Despite the wedding, Steven will keep secrets from Alina and certainly keep doing as he pleases under the pretext of being adventurous and carefree. But love is blind which is why Alina destroying her life by marrying Steven is something audiences saw coming from a mile away.
