Amazon Alexa is capable of a lot of things. Did you know it can act as a robust elderly care platform? Here’s a closer look at Alexa Together.

Amazon is always looking for new ways to make Alexa more useful, and one of the assistant’s most important features is Alexa Together. Alexa has come a long way since its debut in November 2014. At launch, Alexa was good for checking the weather and calendar appointments, asking random questions… and that was about it.
Today, Alexa is capable of so much more. Hardware-wise, Alexa’s now available in a wide array of gadgets. From $20 speakers to 15-inch displays that attach to the wall, the voice assistant can be found in a number of unique form factors. It’s also gained a ton of new features over the years — including the ability to track Amazon orders, detect different voices, and even act as a smart home security platform.
Another way Amazon has expanded Alexa’s usefulness is with something called ‘Alexa Together.’ Alexa Together is an elderly care service that’s built into the Alexa gadgets folks already use. It officially launched on December 7, 2021, and is available via two plans — including a $19.99/month monthly tier and a $199/year annual option. Both plans also come with a free trial, allowing someone to test out the service before having to spend any money.
Everything You Get With Alexa Together
That’s great and all, but what’s actually included with Alexa Together? The short answer is ‘a lot.’ One of the main features is Customized Alerts. This sends someone a notification when their parent/loved one has used Alexa for the first time for the day, or if they haven’t interacted with their speaker in a while. Similarly, the Activity Feed shows a list of interactions a loved one’s had with their Alexa speaker. If they have to use their Alexa speaker to call for help, for example, other family members can get notifications to see that. And those notifications can be sent to multiple people. If a group of siblings all want to stay updated on an elderly parent, the Circle of Support feature enables exactly that. Another helpful feature is Remote Assist. If a loved one needs help creating reminders, adding music services, etc., other family members can remotely help them with these things.
Alexa Together is also useful for those times when a parent or elderly family member needs professional help. At any time, they can have Alexa call a 24/7 urgent response line to get immediate medical assistance. This also ties into Alexa Together’s ‘Fall Detection Response’ feature. This allows Alexa to sync with a parent’s third-party fall detection device (currently supported with Vayyar and SkyAngelCare products). If a fall is detected, Alexa Together can automatically call the urgent response line and alert the person’s emergency contacts.
While Alexa Together isn’t a service that everyone needs, it is extremely useful for older people who want some extra peace of mind. Whether someone has an elderly parent, grandparent, or another family member who could use a security blanket, Alexa Together is a great solution (assuming they already have Alexa devices). Especially with free trials available and relatively affordable prices, it’s an Amazon service that shouldn’t go overlooked.
