Players of Animal Crossing: New Horizons are sharing their frustrations over an overlooked and “missing” 2.0 update feature that means fans can’t sit alone in Brewster’s new Roost cafe. The Animal Crossing update brought the coffee-loving pigeon seen across the AC series to New Horizons for the first time, and while players can enjoy a coffee or sit with friends, they’re not actually able to sit in the cafe solo.

Animal Crossing players have been eagerly awaiting the launch of the game’s latest update, which introduced new features, characters, daily tasks, items, quality-of-life updates, and more when it launched earlier this November. The 2.0 update has been an overall success with players, going far in rectifying many of the issues Animal Crossing fans were finding in the game, such as a lack of gameplay. While many are thrilled with the new content, some do have concerns that the latest additions to the game don’t add the longevity many were hoping for, which could become a problem later in the game’s lifecycle as Nintendo has confirmed the 2.0 update will be the last substantial update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Animal Crossing players on the game’s subreddit have been lamenting one particular issue with the new update and the introduction of Brewster and the Roost. Redditor UnXpectedPrequelMeme shared their frustrations over not being able to sit and enjoy the atmosphere and music of the Roost without needing to buy a coffee, and without bringing a friend. In a post with over 2,000 upvotes from other players also in agreement, the user said:

“If you sit in any chair other than at the bar [Brewster] says it’s reserved, but if you sit at the bar, you get up after drinking or saying you don’t want a coffee. Idk its [sic] weird but I really like the music and atmosphere. And I’d love to just sit and chill for a moment there alone.”

AC player KrazyKarolyn notes that this is something players can do on others’ islands, or when they have island visitors themselves (either by way of amiibo or with friends), but sitting solo in the Roost isn’t otherwise possible at this time.

Visiting Animal Crossing’s Brewster is meant to be a relaxing new activity for players to unwind and enjoy, as seen in Brewster’s slow and deliberate movements, as well as the naturally slow music heard in the background. While Nintendo has marketed the game as a way for players to connect in-game, there are also plenty of players that take on their island adventures solo. If Nintendo’s aim is to bring a bit of appreciation and mindfulness to the game by ensuring players relax, observe, and connect, then players should really be allowed to sit on their own and enjoy what Brewster has brought to ACNH. For now, those looking to enjoy the Roost without drinking coffee can use the Sitting Down reaction to perch on the floor as a workaround.

The seemingly-missing Animal Crossing feature appears as though it could be an oversight on the part of Nintendo, and it could be patched out further down the line. While Nintendo has confirmed the game won’t be getting any large updates in the future, players can likely expect to see new items introduced as part of seasonal events, as well as smaller game updates and patches. While the future of Animal Crossing hasn’t yet been confirmed, Nintendo will hopefully listen to fan feedback and allow players to sit in the Roost on their own and enjoy the ambiance on their own.
