Apple Fitness Now Available How To Get Started & How Much It Costs

With the launch of Apple Fitness+, an exercise service comparable to Peloton and Fitbit Coach, Apple’s highly-anticipated workout package is likely to be a popular option for Apple Watch users. Apple Fitness+ is now available in the United States and elsewhere, so here is an explainer on how much the subscription costs and what it takes to get started.

Since its launch in 2015, the Apple Watch has been constantly evolving into the most successful smartwatch on the market, and at the heart of the current Apple Watch experience is health and wellbeing. Early Apple Watch models featured Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support, the ability to pair with an iPhone, and had a heart rate sensor. Currently, the Apple Watch Series 6 hosts several features aimed at keeping users more active and improving their overall health, including blood oxygen monitoring, heart rate notifications, and even an ECG app that includes real-world data concerning irregular heartbeat evaluation and care.

Apple Fitness+ is a fitness experience offering studio-style workouts that can be utilized on an iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. The workouts incorporate key metrics pulled from the Apple Watch with that data delivered to the other Apple devices for a unique and personalized experience. Fitness+ costs $9.99 per month or $79.99 when paid annually. Alternatively, Apple Fitness+ is also included in the Apple One Premier plan for $29.95 per month. One of the major benefits of the subscription is that it can be shared between as many as six family members for the same monthly, yearly, or Apple One bundle price. However, there are some limitations and requirements to be aware of before getting started.

Fitness+ Requirements & Where To Find The App

Apple Fitness+ does require an Apple Watch Series 3 or newer to use the service. Depending on the Apple Watch model, date and place of purchase, users can secure as much as six months for free. The Apple Watch must be running on watchOS 7.2 at a minimum and paired with an iPhone (6 or newer) or an iPhone SE. For iPad users, a fifth-generation model is required, or an iPad Pro, iPad mini 4 (or newer), iPad 2, or third-generation iPad Air (or newer). Regardless of the iPhone or iPad model, the Apple device must be running on iOS 14.3.

To get started, Fitness+ can be accessed on an iPhone under a new tab in the iOS Fitness app. iPad users will need to first download the Fitness app from the App Store before accessing the Fitness section. In contrast, Apple TV users will see the Fitness app is automatically installed once the device has been upgraded to tvOS 14.3. With an Apple Watch, corresponding Apple device, and subscription in place, users will be able to get started with their first workout class and view the data on their smartwatch’s screen.
