Netflix has announced the cast of their upcoming Big Mouth spinoff series, Human Resources, which will feature a mix of both new and returning actors. Big Mouth debuted in 2017 and loosely follows creator Nick Kroll’s adolescent years, using metaphorical devices such as “hormone monsters” to creatively convey the changes brought about by puberty. While Big Mouth primarily follows the human characters as they come of age, Human Resources will delve entirely into the fantastical home world of hormone monsters, Maurice (Nick Kroll) and Connie (Maya Rudolph).
In an article by Variety, Netflix announced that Aidy Bryant, Randall Park, and Keke Palmer will star in the show as recurring characters. They will be accompanied by David Thewlis (as the Shame Wizard) and Brandon Kyle Goodman, both of whom previously worked on Big Mouth. Although explicit plot details are still under wraps, Kroll hinted at the sorts of stories the show might follow while discussing the challenges of working on Human Resources. Read what Kroll said below:
The challenge has been that these characters don’t only function according to the one thing they do professionally. The Logic Rock is filled with a lot of emotion and love and that defies his nature. Building out the characters in that complex way has been a joy.
Given the expansive world established in Big Mouth, Human Resources will have ample space to explore the various feelings that come with adolescence. The writers of Big Mouth proved that they could tackle sensitive topics with care and wit through the inclusion of characters such as the Shame Wizard and the Depression Kitty. With the setting fully entrenched within the Monster World, only glimpses were caught in the original show. Now, Kroll and his crew have a chance to truly let their imaginations run wild.
