Breath Of The Wild: 10 Shrine Quests That Are Hard To Find

Finding and completing the Shrine quests are some of the most difficult (and obtuse) objectives in Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

There are 42 shrine quests in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the majority of which are so-called “Blessing Shrines.” These Shrines usually require Link to do something out of the ordinary in the outside world, whether it be solving a puzzle, performing a certain action, or finding a specific item.

Once Link has found or erected the Blessing Shrine, he can then enter the shrine and collect the Spirit Orb and whatever reward is inside the treasure chest, without having to go through another trial. The unique locations of Blessing Shrines mean they are not always easy to find, and some require trial and error or just blind luck.

10 The Desert Labyrinth — Dila Maag Shrine

A simple but potentially frustrating shrine quest, upon first entering the South Lomei Labyrinth, the words “To you who sets foot here…My blessing awaits you at the labyrinth’s end” will appear on the screen.

Finding the shrine is simply a case of going through the labyrinth and looking for it. This one can easily have players running around for hours finding plenty of treasure but not the shrine.

9 The Secret Of The Cedars — Tahno O’ah Shrine

Speak to Clavia in Hateno Village and she’ll tell Link about a letter she found in an old book, which said: “When the three summit trees become one, turn your back to them and head towards the sea. A trial encased in stone awaits you there.” This could be potentially confusing. How do you make three trees become one?

In fact, the trees have to be lined up so that they cover each other. Head for the tree nearest the sea and line them up in Link’s field of vision, then turn around and head towards the sea. The shrine is hidden behind some rubble in a grove of cedar trees.

8 The Ceremonial Song — Dagah Keek Shrine

Speak to Laruta in Zora’s Domain to begin the shrine quest. She’ll sing ‘The Champion Festival Song’, which goes: “A gift from the sky…a scale of light…Splits the feet…of a Veiled Falls sight…Your trial awaits…It’s glowing bright…” Speak to her again and she’ll point Link in the direction of Trello, who tells of a ceremonial trident that he’s lost. Link must find the trident in the waters of Zora’s Domain.

Once found, he must go to Veiled Falls where there is a platform, which Link must do a down strike on with the ceremonial trident after jumping from the top of the waterfall. There are a few places where players could get stumped on this one, such as looking for the real ligthscale trident, not the one Link receives as a reward for defeating Divine Beast Vah Ruta, which is a replica, or not performing the correct strike on the platform.

7 A Fragmented Monument — Kay Yah Shrine

This is the kind of quest that can have players walking past the object they’re supposed to find numerous times before finally stumbling upon it. Speak to Garini, who’s in Palmarae Ruins, and he’ll tell of a fragmented stone monument that has some writing on it that he wants to decipher.

There’s nothing to indicate where the fragments are, no hints or arrows to point the player in the right direction. It’s just a case of scouring the area for the fragments, taking pictures of them, and returning to Garini to complete the quest. It’s quite a large search area, so it can take a while before players find all three fragments.

6 Trial On The Cliff — Qaza Tokki Shrine

This shrine quest takes place in North Lomei Labyrinth. As with the Desert Labyrinth quest, this one involves proceeding through a maze to find the shrine.

The game teases the player by showing the glowing orange light of the shrine in the distance, only for them to see that it is behind bars and inaccessible. Following the beeps of the Sheikah Sensor, finding this shrine is just a case of trial and error.

5 Shrouded Shrine — Ketoh Wawai

One of the most atmospheric shrine quests of them all, Shrouded Shrine has Link venturing through the woods in the dark. On the way he’ll have to light a lot of torches and defeat the Typho Ruins Hinox in order to get the orb around its neck that activates the pedestal and erects the shrine.

It’s easy to get lost in the woods in the dark, especially if you don’t have a torch, but there are plenty of treasure chests to stumble upon.

4 The Serpent’s Jaws — Shae Katha Shrine

Speak to Kass on a trail that goes through Pagos Woods in Faron. He’ll sing a song about the region, which goes: “Where the forest dragon splays its jaws, A shrine sleeps with noble cause.” He’ll point link in the direction of Damel Forest, where a “secret” is lying in wait. That scant amount of information is all Link has to go on to find this shrine.

Go to the Spring of Courage, where the fairy statue will tell Link to offer Farosh’s scale. Farosh will appear east of Faron Tower at midnight. Hit Farosh’s body with an arrow to make one of its scales fall off, pick it up, and take it to the Spring of Courage. Drop it in the water in front of the fairy statue to make the door to the shrine open. It’s hard to deduce all that from the clues given.

3 The Silent Swordswomen — Kema Zoos Shrine

This shrine quest begins by talking to Laine, a guard standing outside of Gerudo Town. She’ll tell Link that there are statues of swordswomen scattered throughout the desert, and that they point to the hiding place of an ancient treasure. It sounds simple enough, just find the statues and keep going in the direction in which the swords are pointing.

But a sandstorm complicates things, making visibility difficult and potentially causing the player to lose their bearings. Since this isn’t a Blessing Shrine, once Link finds the shrine he will have to go through the trial that awaits him in the shrine itself.

2 Trial Of The Labyrinth — Tu Ka’loh Shrine

This shrine quest starts with a long paraglide over to Lomei Labyrinth Island in the Akkala sea from the cliffs of the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab.

Unlike the other quests that take place in labyrinths, this one sees Link having to face off against, or at least try and sneak by, Guardians. If he has enough stamina, he can scale the maze walls, just make sure to watch out for the flying Guardians on the roof.

1 Secret Of The Snowy Peaks — Suma Sahma’s Shrine

This shrine quest can be found on Mount Granajh, next to South Lomei Labyrinth. A log left by an adventurer looking for an ancient shrine says that “The shrine slumbers near the pedestal on a snowy Gerudo peak,” and “When the snowy mountain pedestal glows, cast a cold shadow onto its core.” To make the shrine appear, Link must stand while holding a snowball at the edge of the peak between 16:00 and 17:30 game time to cast a shadow on the pedestal.

Alternatively he could use cryonis, but either way the shadow must hit the center of the pedestal for it to activate. It’s not at all obvious what the player has to do from the clues. It could be anything from throwing snowballs at the pedestal, casting Link’s shadow without a snowball, holding the snowball while in the wrong position, or even pushing a ball from the top of the hill, freezing it and trying to hit it with arrows so that it hits the pedestal.
