A movie called The Old Mill needs to be shot in a small town, which turns out not to have an old mill at all. Forced to improvise, the cast doesn’t rise to the occasion as things get progressively worse with the dysfunctional characters failing to coexist.

State and Main is one of the best efforts from director David Mamet, relying mainly on the actors’ ability to make nonsensical conversations into pieces of comedy. Sarah Jessica Parker hams it up well in this role as the leading lady of The Old Mill, who makes one problem after another to have her ridiculously high demands met.
