Community 10 Side Characters Who Wouldve Made Great Study Group Additions

Every sitcom needs a core group of talented comedic performers, and Community was no different. With rising stars such as Donal Glover and Alison Brie proving some of the biggest laughs in the show. Because of this, the study group they formed at Greendale is undoubtedly one of the most eclectic motley crews ever assembled.

But that’s not to say that the group couldn’t have been improved. In fact, the campus acted as a beacon to oddballs and misfits from every corner of the globe, with eccentric characters around every corner who would have fit in well with the Greendale 7. With this in mind here are 10 side characters who would have made great additions to the study group.

10 Garrett

Of all the colorful characters around campus, Garrett stood out due to his larger than life personality. Often found screaming or shouting, Garrett is easy to scare, which could make him difficult to be around.

But regardless of his foibles, Garrett would slip easily into the group. There’s no doubt that his newfound friends would forego his character defects and try their hardest to bring out the best in him.

9 Vaughn

The study group became familiar with Vaughn after he began dating Britta, much to the group’s surprise. Once their relationship concluded he moved on to Annie and brought out her carefree side.

His laid back and relaxed attitude would have made him a great addition to the group, providing a unique dynamic with every member. However, there’s no doubt that Jeff would have been intimidated by him and the two would have come to blows on numerous occasions.

8 Leonard

Greendale Community College attracted many misfits during the shows 6 seasons, but Leonard Rodriguez remains one of the strangest. He also happens to be one of Greendale’s longest-serving students and has been at the college since 1975.

His long life experience and unpredictable behavior would have made him a perfect fit for the group. And although he would have rubbed the study group the wrong way, there’s every chance that they would have proved to be the family he is no doubt searching for.

7 Professor Ian Duncan

Greendale was home to a smorgasbord of eccentric students, each with an unusual backstory and big personalities. But they often paled in comparison to the teacher at the school, who proved time and again to be some of the strangest people on campus.

Professor Ian Duncan taught psychology, despite his clear personality defects and shambolic personal life. This juxtaposition would have seen him fit right in with the study group. Although he isn’t a student, it’s unclear how he would have joined the study group but rest assured that if he did he would be a fine addition.

6 Star-Burns

Star-Burns was a student unlike any other, and despite his limited screen time, the character left an impression, due in large part to his signature facial hair. Despite not being a main character, he featured in numerous episodes throughout the series and even was the focus of a few.

His big personality and distinctive fashion sense would have made him a great fit among the odd-ball study group. In addition to this, Star-Burns clearly need the study group as he struggles with many of his classes.

5 Magnitude

Magnitude may not have been the only character on campus with a catchphrase, but his iconic “pop-pop” was undoubtedly the most memorable. His name tells you everything you need to know about this larger than life character and is a combination of magnetic and attitude.

While many aspects of his character remain a mystery, his acceptance into the study group would have allowed the show to explore the supporting character’s personality and make him more three dimensional.

4 The Dean

The strange and surreal occurrences that plagued the campus could easily be tracked all the way to the top to Craig Pelton, aka The Dean. As Dean, he was in charge of running the school and proved time and again to be not only unsuited for the position but under-qualified.

But despite his quirks, he tried his best with the limited resources available to him and the school, resulting in a college experience that no student will forget. His irreplaceable personality and elaborate costumes would have made The Dean an excellent inclusion to the group. While he may not be a student, there are many status quo altering events that could easily see The Dean join the group.

3 Neil

Neil is best known for his starring role in season 2’s “Advanced Dungeons and Dragons”. The episode is one of the best in the series and sees the study group try to cheer Neil up by playing his favorite game. His easygoing personality makes him fit right in with the group and proves to be a welcome addition. Except for Pierce, who takes it upon himself to make Neil as miserable as possible and ruin the game.

Despite this, the game is one of the best Neil has ever played, due largely to Pierce’s ruthless nature. His unexpected dynamic with Pierce would have made him an interesting inclusion, and who knows where their relationship would have gone.

2 Rachel

Portrayed by Brie Larson, Rachel was introduced in season 4 and quickly made a connection with Abed. The pair found they had a lot in common and eventually became a couple.

Her inclusion in the study group would have shown another aspect to Abed’s personality and altered the group dynamic in a significant way. Despite the strong connection she and Abed shared she made only a handful of appearances on the show, despite still being in a relationship with Abed.

1 Buddy

Of all the students on campus, Buddy is the only one who managed to gain entry to the study group, despite some missteps he was accepted and for a moment it looked like Jack Black would become a series regular.

However, this was not the case. It turned out that the study group was his backup and upon acceptance into another group he chose to join them instead. This left the group in a state of shock, as his funny and larger than life personality would have been a fine addition to the group.
