Despite a number of shakeups in the DCEU’s release schedule, Cyborg star Ray Fisher says his project is still on track for a 2020 release. Like Marvel, DC made a big announcement a few years back teasing all of their upcoming films and giving them each dates. In the years since, they’ve added almost a dozen new projects to that list, though none have come with concrete plans. To make things even more confusing for fans, even the guaranteed films have been put into question. The Flash was once set to arrive next year, before it lost two director, two writers, and maybe even a co-star.
Meanwhile, we’ve heard almost nothing about 2020’s Green Lantern Corps. and Cyborg. The former is firmly in the realm of speculation, as no actors are even attached. For Cyborg, however, we know a bit more. Following a brief cameo in Batman v Superman, Ray Fisher will get more of a spotlight in Justice League later this year. His character has been described as the heart of the film, but nothing is known about how his adventure three years from now will play out. We now know, though, that we can still expect to see the film in 2020.
DC World were on hand at the City of Heroes convention in the UK this weekend, where Fisher was a guest. During his talk, he confirmed that Cyborg was still on track for a 2020 release, giving the film more than enough time to find a cast and crew.

Though the confirmation will come as a relief to fans, the project is still years off and there’s no telling what might happen. After all, both The Flash and The Batman have seemed like sure things at various points. Even next year’s Aquaman was suffered numerous setbacks, while Justice League Part 2 seems to have been completely abandoned.
To hit its proposed release date, Cyborg would need to start filming in early 2019. That gives the project less than two years to get a writer and director attached. And while that may seem like plenty of time, the DCEU has had trouble managing the feat in the past. While new announcements like Batgirl and Nightwing have come with creatives attached, DC’s already announced projects have had more issues. Wonder Woman lost Michelle MacLaren before Patty Jenkins came aboard, and there were even rumors that James Wan might leave Aquaman at one point.
Hopefully, Cyborg’s large window will allow plenty of time for everything to come together so that fans can see the character get his own spotlight. Even Marvel have had plenty of shakeups in their superhero productions, so there’s no guarantee that DC’s previous troubles will spell doom for Cyborg.
