D&D Strixhaven Prismari College Explained

Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos is a new Dungeons & Dragons sourcebook that adds the magical Strixhaven University from Magic: The Gathering into the D&D multiverse. The students who attend Strixhaven must choose from one of five different colleges for their second year of study, which will let them further refine their skills. Prismari is one of the five colleges that players can choose, with its students combining mastery of elemental magic with craftsmanship, in order to create stunning displays of arcane artistry.

Strixhaven originated in Magic: The Gathering. As such, the five colleges each correspond to different colors of magic from that game. Prismari is connected to blue and red, which reflects the schools of perfection and expression. The perfection school is about honing an artistic craft as much as possible, to create artwork that stimulates on an intellectual level. The expression school is about creating emotional and raw artwork, some of which may only exist for a few seconds before it vanishes forever. The two schools are matched in terms of elemental prowess, with the blue and red manifesting as water and fire in their D&D spells.

D&D Strixhaven has a specific background for Prismari students, which gives the character skill proficiencies in Acrobatics and Performance, a tool proficiency in one musical instrument or artisan’s tool, one language, and the addition of several spells to the spell list. The students of elemental magic will find many uses for their skills on an adventure, and their ability to captivate an audience is equally as useful when dealing with problems that are closer to home.

D&D: Prismari Is The School Of Artists And Elementalists At Strixhaven

D&D Strixhaven Prismari College Explained

Prismari is the College of Elemental Arts, which was founded by a dragon named Galazeth Prismari. The students learn all about the history of art and live performance, which means that they share classes with the students of Lorehold and Silverquill in D&D, as well as taking practical classes on different art forms. They combine this knowledge with spells from the conjuration, evocation, and illusion schools, to create stunning physical/magical works of art. The two Deans of Prismari are Uvilda Mistcoiler, the Dean of Perfection, and Nassari, the Dean of Expression. Uvilda believes that artwork is something that is carefully assembled and is the result of hours of meticulous work, while Nassari believes that artwork is an expression of emotion that can take but one of countless forms in everyday life.

The Prismari campus is set in a land of cliffs and crags, where the land itself resembles waves of water, thanks to the magical influence of the students who have resided there over the years. The main building is the towering Conjurot Hall, which has numerous spires and colorful windows, each with a majestic view of the surrounding landscape. The many art pieces created by students over the years are displayed in Opus Walk, which is a path that winds through the campus. The tampering with elemental magic led to an area of wild magic, known as Furygale, where fire and ice swirl through the air. Furygale is off-limits to the students, but some use it as a secret dueling ground, away from the prying eyes of teachers. The official mascot of Prismari is the Art Elemental Mascot, which is a D&D creature for Strixhaven of different swirling energies that are beautiful to behold.

Playing A Prismari Student In Dungeons & Dragons

The followers of perfection are less likely to become adventurers than the followers of expression, as their in-depth approach to the arts and magic means their skills won’t improve as much when out in the field. The followers of expression are a perfect fit for the adventuring lifestyle, as they seek new forms of inspiration, and learn new ways to manipulate the elements. The need to always be impressing an audience means that a life on the road is also a fitting choice.

When it comes to a character class in Dungeons & Dragons, the Bard or the Sorcerer would be a natural fit for a Prismari student, though Clerics and Druids would also excel, as would Wizards who study evocation spells. The life of an adventurer is filled with opportunities for growth and will provide experiences that cannot be had in a classroom, which is why a Prismari student would seek out the dangerous lifestyle that comes with exploring dungeons.
