As expected from any Marvel series, Disney+’s Hawkeye does an excellent job at balancing moving moments with scenes of hilarity. Fans likely never expected Clint to be so funny, but Kate seems to be able to bring out his more comedic side.
Many of the funniest quotes in the series so far have come from the banter between Clint and Kate. From the aspiring superhero’s disappointment about “Avenger supplies” to Hawkeye’s hilarious reminder to “walk the dog,” viewers won’t soon forget the most gut-busting lines from the show.
Kate Bishop:
“All Famous Bells Have Cracks In Them.”
The first time fans see Kate’s impressive archery skills is early in the show when she decides to shoot at a bell tower for fun. She equips her arrow with a tennis ball, which isn’t enough to move it at all.
Her next shot is far more impressive, as she aims for the rope attached to the bell, which successfully moves it and then some. She realizes her grave mistake when the bell starts damaging the area around it, but she shrugs it off saying “all famous bells” have those anyway. What happens next is a comical disaster, as the entire structure collapses and Kate is caught by security.
Kate Bishop:
“Avengers Supplies?”
After a tough night of fighting against members of the Tracksuit Mafia, Kate and Clint head out to get what Hawkeye simply refers to as “supplies.” This excites the obviously starstruck Kate who immediately thinks she might get some cool “Avengers supplies.”
She’s sorely disappointed to discover that superheroes are humans, too — especially Hawkeye. They buy bandages, alcohol, medicine, and other regular things people use to treat injuries. Kate’s reaction and Clint’s nonchalance about the whole thing is a perfect microcosm of their odd friendship.
Clint Barton (Hawkeye):
“That’s Katniss Everdeen.”
Kate’s insistence on Clint’s “branding problem” is underscored when the two spot a group of cosplayers in the middle of a busy street. The entire Avengers crew is there, except for Hawkeye. When Kate spots a woman holding a bow and arrow, she excitedly points it out to Clint, who quickly realizes it’s the character Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games.
His deadpan delivery makes the scene especially funny. It’s a moment that only reinforces Kate’s belief in helping improve Clint’s public image and she even draws a costume straight out of the comic books for him in a later scene.
Clint Barton (Hawkeye):
“I Could Take This Pretend-Sword And You Pretend To Die And I Take That Suit, Or I’m Gonna Real Punch You And You’re Gonna Real Fall Down And I’m Gonna Take That Suit.”
Clint finds himself in an awkward situation when he discovers that a member of a Live Action Role Playing club has taken his Ronin suit. Grills is hesitant to give it to him and Clint has lost his patience after a grueling fake battle through a group of enthusiastic LARPers.
Despite his threats of a “real punch,” his more empathetic side comes out when he realizes Grills just wants to feel like he beat a hero for once in his life. A comical scene depicting their fake battle follows soon after, which Grills obviously enjoys much more than Clint does.
Clint Barton (Hawkeye):
“Can I Speak To Your Manager? This Is Like Talking To Furniture.”
Hawkeye uses “one of Natasha’s old moves” when he goes for a “catch release” with the Tracksuit Mafia members who proudly think they’re kidnapping him. Clint wants to know exactly who’s on top of the operation to hunt Ronin down but struggles to communicate with the dim-witted Mafia members.
The senseless bickering and boasting between the “bros” understandably annoy Clint who hilariously asks to “speak” with their “manager.” He rudely compares them “to furniture,” which sounds like an improved version of the idiom about talking to a brick wall.
Clint Barton (Hawkeye):
“I’m Not Smashing A ’72 Challenger.”
Clint manages to drop a funny quote during his narrow escape with Kate after a fight in the Tracksuit Mafia’s warehouse. They’re looking for a getaway car and Kate eagerly suggests the bright red vehicle right in front of the entrance.
Hawkeye almost seems offended by the recommendation, as he knows it’s far more valuable than the car he ends up “smashing.” He chooses a less flashy car in the lot and breaks the window before hotwiring it. He’ll regret this decision later on, though, as Echo uses the Challenger and damages it during their car chase.
Kate Bishop:
“Good Thing They Call You HawkEYE And Not HawkEAR.”
One of the funniest insults in Hawkeye happens over text, soon after Clint and Kate escape Echo and her goons. With his hearing aid broken to pieces, Kate attempts to communicate with him via text. Despite the stressful situation they were just in, she cracks a joke that Hawkeye tries hard not to laugh at.
The first message is fittingly an offensive joke about Clint’s superhero name being “HawkEYE and not HawkEAR.” It’s a lighthearted moment that highlights the great chemistry between the now close friends, at least according to Kate.
Clint Barton (Hawkeye):
“Probably Should Walk The Dog. Don’t You Think? Been Cooped Up All Day.”
A scene that has been featured in several memes and repeated on Reddit threads takes place on a train after Clint and Kate’s bold escape from the Tracksuit Mafia. Without his hearing aid, Hawkeye has a hard time deciphering Kate’s words.
He doesn’t hear Kate’s initial comment about having to walk Pizza Dog, which leads to a funny and moving moment between the two friends. Fans likely couldn’t help but laugh when Clint repeats Kate’s statement about walking “the dog” who has “been cooped up all day.” Viewers can only hope one of them managed to actually walk the pet offscreen.

“Little Ol’ Caesar? Dogfather? Sir Dog Of Pizza? Pizza Dog?”
Pizza Dog has become an iconic animal character in the MCU and fans are always excited to see him on the show. It’s always amusing to see Kate interact with her rescued pet, as she can’t seem to make up her mind about what his name should be.
For now, it seems as if the series will stay true to the comics and stick with “Pizza Dog,” which is fitting since audiences may remember how Kate feeds him pizza for his first meal in her apartment. The adorable dog doesn’t seem to mind the strange names Kate calls him sometimes, but he always visibly reacts to “Pizza Dog.”
Jack Duquesne:
“Oh My God… You’re Archer.”
The tense moment between Clint and Jack ends in a funny way when Kate shows up and Jack realizes that he’s holding his sword against an Avenger’s neck. His comical reaction only amuses Kate, who knows that being called “Archer” is part of Hawkeye’s “branding problem.”
Fans who read the comics will know that this hilarious line is a reference to Jack’s character as the Swordsman. It’s a witty insult that will hopefully have some sort of callback later on in the series, as it would be entertaining to see the two face off and call each other “Swordsman” and “Archer.”
