Disneys The Aristocats The 10 Best Quotes

Disney’s The Aristocats is a classic movie released in 1970. With romance brewing between Duchess and Thomas, a journey from the countryside back to Paris, and a cast of eclectic characters like siblings Abigail and Amelia and Scat Cat and his gang, the film had a lot to offer.

Given all the funny situations and eccentric characters, many memorable quotes are embedded throughout the film. Whether it’s Edgar singing to himself, Marie affirming that she’s a lady or a lesson in leadership between Napoleon and Lafayette, there are plenty of funny and sarcastic quotes in store for audiences to enjoy.

10 “Ladies Do Not Start Fights, But They Can Finish Them!”

Disneys The Aristocats The 10 Best Quotes

When Berlioz accuses his sister of starting the fight that their mother breaks up, Marie sassily responds with the above statement, her body language matching her tone. Marie, for the most part, behaves like a proper young lady, but she still has her moments where she fights with her brothers as siblings tend to do.

Marie’s sassy statement is actually quite adorable, and it’s not the first time she declares that she’s a lady and should be considered as such.

9 “Rock-A-Bye-Kitties. Bye-Bye You Go. La, La, La, La And I’m In The Dough. Oh, Edgar, You Sly Old Fox!”

Disneys The Aristocats The 10 Best Quotes

Edgar is bound and determined to ensure he inherits his employer’s fortune, and that meant getting rid of Duchess and her kittens. While making dinner for the cats, he mixes in sleeping pills and sings a little song for himself, proud of his sly and cunning ways and his evil plan.

Edgar isn’t the worst Disney villain out there considering he never actually tried to murder the cats, but he’s not perfect, either. Still, his little villain tune is pretty hilarious.

8 “You Really Did Quite Well For A Beginner.”

After Marie falls into the water, Thomas bravely dives in after her. While she makes it to shore, Thomas ends up further downstream, where Amelia and Abigail Gabble, twin sisters from England, come across him. The two sisters hilariously mistake Thomas as a cat trying to teach himself how to swim when he’s really trying to get to shore, and their interference causes him to nearly drown, which they save him from.

Abigail later praises Thomas’s efforts to attempt swimming, never knowing that that was the last thing Thomas wanted to do.

7 “Ready, Everyone? Now, Think Goose!”

Disneys The Aristocats The 10 Best Quotes

After saving Thomas’s life, Amelia and Abigail formally introduce themselves to Duchess and her kittens. Upon learning that they all have the same destination, that being Paris, they end up traveling together, and Abigail encourages her fellow travelers to ‘think goose’ with the above quote.

The cats all waddle just like Abigail and her sister, making for a funny walk among the cats as they traveled through the countryside. Though by the time they reached Paris, they were understandably exhausted, and walking like a goose probably didn’t help matters.

6 “Boy! Your Eyes Are Like Sapphires.”

Disneys The Aristocats The 10 Best Quotes

Thomas is mesmerized by Duchess’s beautiful eyes, and for good reason. They are a beautiful shade of blue, and Thomas comments more than once that her eyes are like sapphires. Marie and Duchess certainly think it’s romantic, but Berlioz and Toulouse couldn’t care less.

Nonetheless, it was obvious that there was chemistry and an impending romance between Thomas and Duchess, which came true when Thomas later joined their family.

5 “Well He Didn’t Hurt Me; He Hit Me On The Head.”

Disneys The Aristocats The 10 Best Quotes

When Edgar returns for his stolen property under the cover of nightfall, Napoleon and Lafayette are fast asleep. While Edgar gets sneaky and tries to get his stuff back without disturbing them, the two eventually wake and manage to spook themselves.

Edgar didn’t actually hit Lafayette on the head; Lafayette instead hit his head on Napoleon, which spooked the both of them. Lafayette isn’t always the brightest, and the above quote is certainly one of his funniest, considering the latter statement contradicts the former.

4 “You’re Nothing But A Sister!”

Disneys The Aristocats The 10 Best Quotes

Berlioz has a comeback at the ready when Marie insists that she’s a lady and should be allowed to go through the cat door first. Toulouse first informed Marie that she wasn’t a lady, and Berlioz added the above comment, pulling on his sister’s tail so he could pass by her.

This ultimately led to a playful but brief fight between the siblings. Their mother encourages them not to fight, as she’s raising them to be a lady and gentleman, but anyone with siblings can certainly relate to this particular sibling dynamic between the three kittens.

3 “Especially When He’s Marinated.”

Disneys The Aristocats The 10 Best Quotes

Duchess, Thomas, the kittens, Abigail, and Amelia finally make it back to Paris, where they meet Uncle Waldo, who’s clearly intoxicated after nearly becoming dinner at a local restaurant. While loud and a bit obnoxious, he’s also quite funny. He slurs his words and wildly moves about, and Amelia and Abigail take their uncle to get some rest.

As they depart, Thomas mentions that he likes Uncle Waldo, and Duchess added the above comment, which was certainly funny, and accurate. Uncle Waldo would be a hit at parties while “marinated.”

2 “Because I’m A Lady, That’s Why.”

Disneys The Aristocats The 10 Best Quotes

As the three siblings race to get through the cat door, Marie insists that she should be first, and supports that thought with the above statement. Her brothers hardly agree with her, and Berlioz ensures that his sister doesn’t go ahead before he does.

Marie considers herself a proper lady by all means, and in many ways, she is. However, she succumbs to sibling rivalry too, as was the case in this particular instance. While her statement was cute, it didn’t convince her brothers that she deserved to go first.

1 “Wait A Minute. I’m The Leader. I’m The One That Says When We Go….Here We Go. Charge!”

Napoleon is clearly the leader, and whenever his companion Lafayette challenges that, Napoleon insists that he, and he only, is the leader and therefore is in charge of any and all decision-making. Napoleon and Lafayette never hesitate to charge Edgar, and the first time around, they manage to steal some of his belongings, which Edgar later returns for.

It’s a funny dynamic between the two dogs, and Napoleon certainly reiterates his position as the leader more than once in the film.
