Dragon Ball Used Supermans Weakness To Prove Goku is Stronger

A recent chapter of Dragon Ball Super saw Goku definitively prove himself to be more powerful than Superman. Goku took down an evil cosmic sorcerer named Moro and in doing so proved the angelic power of Ultra Instinct that the Saiyan hero wields is more powerful than magic. Kryptonite has long been established as the one thing that can be used to defeat Superman, but another one of Supe’s weaknesses is magic, something Goku showed he can overcome.

In 1964’s Superman #171 fans learn that along with Kryptonite, magic can be used to stop the Man of Steel. No explanation was given as to why magic does the trick against Superman, but it has been used to propel DC Comics’ stories for decades to come. In Action Comics Annual 2021 written by Philip Kennedy Johnson with art by Siya Oum and Scott Godlewski, Superman’s descendant named Pyrrhos plans to use magic to restore the House of El to its former glory. The established fact that magic is one of Superman’s weaknesses and is then used by his descendent for their benefit gives the story an extra punch of irony amid the eye-popping futuristic landscape.

When Goku taps into the angelic power of Ultra Instinct he is able to defeat the deadly magic user Moro in Dragon Ball Super chapter 66 by Akira Toriyama. Moro presents a unique challenge for the Z-Fighters as his power is magic based, which is a form of power Saiyans have yet to tap into. Goku has fought aliens, androids, and even gods and has eventually been able to learn their techniques to fight them and come out on top. With Moro, Goku doesn’t learn magic to beat him, he just proves that the power he holds is stronger than magic, something Superman isn’t capable of proving.

Given that Goku’s power is stronger than magic, and magic is one of Superman’s weaknesses he has yet to overcome, it is fair to say that Goku is stronger than Superman. The only caveat with the assumption that Goku is stronger than Superman is that Goku is not a magic user, he is just more powerful than one. Superman is vulnerable to magic and Kryptonite and not much else, so even though Goku doesn’t share Superman’s weakness to magic, that doesn’t necessarily mean he could beat Superman in a fight. While Goku’s power has become immeasurable after unlocking Autonomous Ultra Instinct, no equivalent power level has been given to Superman. The Man of Steel’s list of his weaknesses does not include any power Goku has in his arsenal, unless the Saiyan were to somehow get his hands on some Kryptonite.

Aside from Goku fighting Superman, Goku proved he is stronger in terms of besting a magic user where Superman would not be able to. If Superman and Goku were each to go up against the same sorcerer, it is likely Goku would defeat them and Superman would not. Dragon Ball Super uses Superman’s weakness to magic to prove that Goku is officially stronger than the Man of Steel.
