Every Joey King Movie & Show Releasing After The Kissing Booth 3

Here’s every Joey King movie and TV show releasing after The Kissing Booth 3. King is best known for playing Shelly “Elle” Evans in The Kissing Booth trilogy currently streaming on Netflix. The 22-year-old actress is also enjoying tremendous success behind the camera for the trilogy, serving as an executive producer on the second and third Kissing Booth films. In July, King signed a first-look deal with Netflix, developing films for the streaming service via her All the King’s Dark Horses production company (via Deadline).

King began acting at the age of four, and before The Kissing Booth, her credits include The Dark Knight Rises, The Conjuring, White House Down, and the TV series Fargo. After starring in The Kissing Booth, King earned Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG nominations for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role as Gypsy Rose Blanchard in Hulu’s The Act.

Thanks to her development deal with Netflix, now that Kissing Booth 3 is done, Joey King has several high-profile projects on the horizon, and the next few years promise to be busy ones for the young actress-producer. Here’s a rundown of her upcoming movie and TV roles.

Bullet Train

King will co-star with Brad Pitt and a great ensemble cast in Bullet Train. The action-thriller, directed by David Leitch (Deadpool 2), features an all-star cast including Pitt, Sandra Bullock, Zazi Beetz, Michael Shannon, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Brian Tyree Henry. The movie centers on five assassins traveling on a bullet train from Tokyo to Morioka who learn their missions are intertwined. Bullet Train is a big-screen adaptation of the Japanese novel Maria Beetle by bestselling author Kotaro Isaka. King will play Prince, one of the assassins. The movie hits theaters on April 8, 2022, and marks Brad Pitt’s first movie and return to the big screen for the first time since 2019’s Ad Astra and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

The In Between

King will star opposite Kyle Allen (West Side Story) in the sci-fi romance The In Between, based on her own story pitch. The upcoming Paramount+ film tells the story of a girl (King) who, after surviving a car crash that killed her boyfriend (Allen), believes he’s trying to connect with her from the afterworld. The movie, currently in post-production, is set to premiere on Paramount+, but no release date has been announced. King is obviously no stranger to romance movies and audiences will recognize Allen from his roles on American Horror Story and The Path, so this could be another crowd-pleaser.

A Spark of Light

In October 2019, it was reported King was attached to star as Wren in A Spark of Light (via Deadline), based on the novel of the same name by Jodi Picoult (My Sister’s Keeper). Described as a Dog Day Afternoon in a women’s health clinic, King’s character is the daughter of a hostage negotiator who is called to the scene only to discover her daughter is trapped inside with the gunman. When King’s first-look deal with Netflix was announced in July, it was also revealed that not only is King attached to headline, she’s also set to produce the limited series for Hulu and Sony Pictures TV.

Uglies

In September 2020, Netflix announced King would serve as an executive producer and star in a film adaptation of Uglies, the first book in Scott Westerfeld’s popular YA book series. The dystopian novel takes place 300 years in the future when 16-year-olds undergo mandatory plastic surgery to conform to societal beauty standards. Uglies was published in 2005, followed by Pretties, Specials, and Extras. The first three books center around Tally Youngblood, who learns the government isn’t just altering people’s appearances, but also the way they think. Terminator: Salvation’s McG will direct the movie.

The Princess

Details surrounding The Princess are scarce, other than 20th Century Studios acquired the spec script written by Ben Lustig and Jake Thornton, and King is attached to star (via Deadline). The plot has been kept under wraps aside from the spec description of “Rapunzel meets The Raid.” Both stories center around an almost impenetrable edifice (in The Raid martial arts movie, it’s a high rise housing a crime lord), and the comparison hints that King won’t be a run-of-the-mill damsel in distress. Lustig and Thornton are making the movie for Hulu, and King will also serve as an executive producer on the film. Clearly, Joey King has big plans now that The Kissing Booth 3 is over and it will be exciting to see what she does next.
