Netflix has made Christmas a mainstay of its annual programming since 2017, and 2021 is no different with 28 new releases coming before the big day!

Those who just can’t wait for the Christmas season need look no further than Netflix which has announced its “Here for the Holidays” 2021 event with a wealth of holiday movies and TV series to look forward to. The event is set to pick up right where their Halloween event “Netflix and Chills” leaves off with the first releases coming on November 1. With growing competition from Disney+, Paramount+, and HBO Max event releases, “Here for the Holidays” helps to set Netflix apart from the rest of the pack.

Netflix’s Christmas movies such as The Princess Switch and The Knight Before Christmas have become a strong niche for the streaming service in recent years. After the success of A Christmas Prince in 2017, which tells the story of an undercover journalist falling in love with the supposed prince of a fictional country, the platform has been leaning into their seasonal programming. This year will be no different as Netflix has announced that their “Here for the Holidays” plan includes an incredible 28 releases covering romantic comedies, films for the family, Christmas series, and a healthy dose of Vanessa Hudgens.

While it might seem early for Netflix’s event to start at the beginning of November, the line of when the holiday season starts has been getting blurrier every year. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the opportunity to be shut up inside with a blanket and some holiday cheer on the TV seems like the perfect escape. Here’s every TV series and movie coming to Netflix before Christmas 2021.

The Claus Family – November 1

To kick off the Christmas season, Netflix’s first release of “Here for the Holidays” is the Dutch Santa Claus film The Claus Family. Suzanne has had to move her children, Jules and Noor, from The Netherlands to Belgium for work. While Jules hates the holidays, he learns that his family has a special legacy when his grandfather falls ill and he must work to help and save Christmas.

Love Hard – November 5

Coming on November 5, Love Hard is Netflix’s first holiday rom-com of the season. Starring Nina Dobrev, Jimmy O. Yang, and Darren Barnet, the movie follows an LA journalist who hops on a plane to give her online crush a special surprise for the holidays. But when she arrives on the East Coast, she finds she has been catfished, only for the catfisher to offer to set her up with the real crush if she pretends to be his girlfriend for the holidays.

Father Christmas Is Back – November 7

A Christmas-themed family comedy, Father Christmas is Back sees four extremely different sisters reunited for the holidays in their ancestral mansion as one tries to plan the perfect Christmas to make up for their father abandoning them on Christmas many years before. The plan comes to a halt when their long-lost father, James, returns and mishaps and misunderstandings ensue. The film stars Nathalie Cox, Elizabeth Hurley, Talulah Riley, Amelie Prescott, John Cleese, Charming The Hearts Of Men’s Kelsey Grammer, and April Bowlby.

Christmas Flow – November 17

Netflix’s first holiday TV series of “Here for the Holidays” lands on November 17 with Christmas Flow. The French series is a romantic comedy from director Nadège Loiseau and sees opposites attract. When Rapper Tayc meets the tenacious journalist Shirine Boutella the two start an improbable romance but work to figure out their relationship despite their differences.

The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star – November 18

Netflix’s own The Princess Switch returns for a third outing this year as Queen Margaret and Princess Stacy of Belgravia, both played by Vanessa Hudgens, seek to recover a stolen priceless relic. In this quest, they enlist the help of Margaret’s cousin, Fiona, the antagonist in Netflix’s shared universe of The Princess Switch sequel, who is also played by Vanessa Hudgens. When a mysterious man from her past reappears, Fiona finds herself amidst a rekindled romance and an unexpected new switch.

Blown Away: Christmas – November 19

Netflix will be adding a special Christmas season of the Canadian reality glassblowing competition TV show, Blown Away. Host Bobby Berk returns for the special alongside the regular evaluator Katherine Gray. As it is the holiday season, as well as competing in Christmas-themed challenges to win $10,000, contestants will also be vying to win an additional $10,000 for a charity of their choice.

Waffles + Mochi’s Holiday Feast – November 23

Waffles + Mochi return for their family-friendly holiday special Waffles + Mochi Holiday Feast. The Netflix original children’s cooking series follows the puppets Waffles and Mochi as they explore the world of food and stars Michelle Zamora, Piotr Michael, and former First Lady Michelle Obama. When Steve the Mop calls to ask Waffles and Mochi about their holiday traditions, Waffles makes some things up and claims it’s all about the food but as hijinks ensue they all learn that the holidays are about a lot more than food.

A Boy Called Christmas – November 24

A Boy Called Christmas is Netflix’s adaptation of the bestselling children’s book of the same name by Matt Haig. Nikolas’ father has set out on a quest to find the fabled village of the elves, Elfhelm. When Nikolas decides to search for him he takes a reindeer called Blitzen and his loyal pet mouse and soon discovers his magical destiny. The cast includes Henry Lawfull, Jim Broadbent, Sally Hawkins, Toby Jones, Maggie Smith, Kristen Wiig, and Logan’s Stephen Merchant.

Robin Robin – November 24

Perfect for kids and adults alike, Robin Robin is a stop motion holiday musical from the British animation studio Aardman, who are the minds behind Wallace & Gromit. When Robin’s egg rolled into a trash heap, she was raised by a family of mice. As she grows older her differences become apparent she sets out on a heist to prove that she can be a real mouse but learns about her origins along the way.

A Castle For Christmas – November 26

Because Christmas wouldn’t be complete without more romantic comedies, A Castle for Christmas provides just that. Famed American author, Sophie Brown, has come to Scotland in the hopes of buying a castle to live in. However, the owner, Duke Myles, is hesitant to sell to a foreigner. While the two struggle to find a compromise in the deal and consistently butt heads, they both get more than they had bargained for. The film stars Brooke Shields and Saw’s Cary Elwes.

School of Chocolate – November 26

School of Chocolate is a new cooking show competition that sees eight skilled pastry and chocolate professionals seeking to take their abilities up a notch. Taught by Amaury Guichon, the globally renowned chocolatier and pastry chef, each student is battling to prove themselves “Best in Class.” The winner will receive a large prize package that includes a potentially career-changing opportunity.

Elves – November 28

The Danish chilling fantasy TV series Elves arrives on Netflix on November 28. When a family of four take a Christmas trip to a remote Danish island, they find it is led by a strongly religious community who delicately co-exist alongside the powerful elves that live in the woods nearby. These monstrous beings are shown to have inspired well-known folklore and myths ad when the family’s daughter brings home a baby elf she throws the island into a deadly battle for survival.

Charlie’s Colorforms City: Snowy Stories – November 30

Charlie’s Colorforms City, the American/Canadian children’s TV series based on Colorforms is returning to Netflix for a holiday special series: Snow Stories. Presented by Tyler Maxwell, the series educates children about colors, shapes, and size with the original season releasing in March 2019. This winter-themed set of stories introduce Yetilda D. Yeti who teams up with Charly to have some snowy adventures.

A Naija Christmas – December TBA

Netflix has not confirmed the date for it yet but will be adding the Nigerian Christmas movie A Naija Christmas to their platform at some point in December. The film follows a family as a mother struggles to put together a Christmas celebration that she will serve as her lasting legacy. In an attempt to fulfill their mother’s wishes, each of her three sons rush to try and bring home wives in time for Christmas.

How To Ruin Christmas (Season 2) – December TBA

Also coming to Netflix on an unspecified date in December is the South African comedy series How to Ruin Christmas as it returns for season 2. After last year, Tumi Sello (Busi Lurayi) hopes to have a quiet Christmas this year. However, her hopes prove futile and she is forced to spend the final days before the holidays trying to clear her family’s name.

Single All The Way – December 2

Netflix is celebrating its first LGBTQ+ movie of the holiday season this year with Single All the Way. Hulu’s 2020 movie Happiest Season was the first LGBTQ+ holiday movie from a major studio and it has opened the flood gates to more diverse representation in the holiday movie scene. Single All the Way follows Peter (Michael Urie) as he, wanting to avoid his family’s judgment for being eternally single, persuades his best friend Nick (Philemon Chambers) to pretend to be in a relationship with him. However, things get more complicated when Peter’s mother is revealed to have set him up on a date with her personal trainer.

The Great British Baking Show: Holidays (Season 4) – December 3

The Great British Baking Show has become quite the phenomenon with its ninth collection currently releasing on Netflix. The platform will also be adding two new episodes of its holiday special spinoff series as part of “Here for the Holidays.” The new episodes will see the contestants craft winter treats as they prepared for guest judge Prue Leith.

Shaun The Sheep: The Flight Before Christmas – December 3

In another production from Aardman, Shaun the Sheep gets his own holiday special with Shaun the Sheep: The Flight Before Christmas. After the sheep raid the farmhouse in search of larger Christmas stockings, they find that Timmy has gone missing. Shaun and the others must work together to find Timmy and save him before he becomes someone’s Christmas morning present. A perfect adventure for families and kids.

David and the Elves – December 6

Netflix will be adding the Polish comedy Christmas-Party-style Christmas movie David and the Elves (Dawid I Elfy). While Christmas is approaching, David struggles as his parents have become engrossed and totally absorbed in their respective worlds of work, and have therefore largely forgotten the true holiday spirit. With the help of Albert the Elf, who has escaped from the land of Santa, David goes on an adventure in the Tatra Mountains towards the home of his grandparent. However, his parents, on the other hand, are following in hot pursuit with Santa in tow as he struggles to understand the updates of the modern world.

StarBeam: Beaming in the New Year – December 14

With 4 seasons and a Halloween special since it was first released on Netflix in 2020, the Canadian-American superhero show is returning with another seasonal offering. Following the adventures of the superheroine Zoey, the animated series follows her exploits as she explores the powers that she inherited from her mother. In StarBeam: Beaming in the New Year, the seasonal episode sees all of StarBeam’s greatest enemies team up for a New Year’s Eve battle leading Zoey to train her cousin Zane to become the next great superhero of the family.

A California Christmas: City Lights – December 16

Coming to Netflix in mid-December is a sequel to their 2020 film A California Christmas, A California Christmas: City Lights. After Callie and Joseph fell in love at the end of the first movie, they have spent a happy year running their dairy farm and winery. However, when familial and business obligations bring Joseph back to the city their romance and their happiness are threatened in this Christmas story.

Grumpy Christmas – December 22

Grumpy Christmas is the sequel to the 2016 Mexican comedy film Un Padre No Tan Padre (The Patriarch). When Don Servando (Héctor Bonilla) and his family travel to spend Christmas with Alma’s aunt, Doña Alicia, he decides that her demanding nature makes her his nemesis. He proceeds to do all in his power to ruin her reputation, even if it also means ruining Christmas.

1000 Miles From Christmas – December 24

The final announcement for Netflix’s here for the holidays is the Spanish comedy 1000 Miles from Christmas (1000 kms de la Navidad). The film is based on the true story of Raúl, a man who hates Christmas and everything associated with it because all of his misfortunes have always happened around the holidays. While he usually spends the season on a remote beach, his boss has forced him to visit a factory that makes a traditional Christmas sweet in a town that is devoted to Christmas as he shares his accommodations with a woman who dreams of making the world’s largest real live nativity scene. Raúl is faced with either embracing the spirit of Christmas or finding a way to escape a town that has become his worst nightmare.
