In the same decade, Crowe delivered acclaimed performances in A Beautiful Mind, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, and Cinderella Man.
Now in his late fifties, Crowe is no longer the brooding actor from years past, but he remains a huge star all the same. The Georgetown Project
Filmed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Georgetown Project was co-produced by Kevin Williamson. Crowe stars as Anthony Miller, an actor who suffers a breakdown while filming a horror movie, which gives the film a meta quality. The Georgetown Project was written and directed by M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller, who previously collaborated for the 2015 movie The Final Girls. The supporting cast includes Adam Goldberg, Sam Worthington, and Samantha Mathis. The Georgetown Project is expected to release in 2021.
Thor: Love And Thunder
According to a March 2021 report, Russell Crowe will cameo in Thor: Love and Thunder. The actor was spotted with the cast and crew at an Australian rugby game, and Marvel reportedly enlisted him for a “fun cameo.” The details of Crowe’s role are still unclear.
Ark: The Animated Series
In December 2020, Crowe was officially cast in Ark: The Animated Series. The TV show is based on the popular video game series in which players attempt to survive on a prehistoric island. Crowe will reportedly voice Kor the Prophet, and will be joined in the main cast by Gerard Butler, Vin Diesel, Malcolm McDowell, Elliot Page, David Tennant, Karl Urban, Jeffrey Wright, and Michelle Yeoh. The Greatest Beer Run Ever
According to a March 2021 report (via Deadline), Crowe will appear in a new movie by Green Book filmmaker Peter Farrelly. The Greatest Beer Run Ever is based on Chick Donahue and J.T. Molloy’s eponymous 2017 book about a Manhattan man who traveled overseas to bring beer to his childhood friends during the Vietnam War. Zac Efron will star in the lead role, and Crowe will reportedly be the second headliner in an undisclosed role.
Rothko
In March 2021, Crowe was officially cast in Rothko. He’ll star as the American abstract expressionist artist Mark Rothko, whose work is the focus of the 2021 Netflix documentary Made You Look. Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, the film will chronicle the legal battle that the subject’s daughter undertook to honor his legacy, with Aisling Franciosi scheduled to co-star as Kate Rothko. The supporting cast includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jared Harris, and Michael Stuhlbarg.
American Son
Crowe still star in a remake of Jacques Audiard’s 2009 French film A Prophet. According to a May 2020 report (via Variety), he’ll appear as a mobster who rules over a prison and influences the young protagonist, portrayed by Stephan James. American Son will be directed by Andrew Onwubolu aka Rapman, who helmed the 2019 crime thriller Blue Story.
