Viewers may have recognized American actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead upon first watching 2016’s 10 Cloverfield Lane. Before she gained wider recognition for playing Michelle in the sci-fi psychological horror film, Winstead had experience working on a wide array of films and television shows. Winstead broke into the industry as a young teen, appearing in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Donny Osmond in 1997.

After that, throughout the late 1990s and early aughts, she gained television success, appearing in series including Touched by an Angel and Promised Land, among others. Winstead’s first big role was as Jessica Bennett on the NBC soap opera Passions from 1999-2000. Then Winstead appeared on the brief run of a show called Wolf Lake and in the made-for-TV movie Monster Island. In 2005, she had a small role in the independent movie, Checking Out.

Winstead’s true big break came later in 2005 with the Disney movie, Sky High, about a high school for teenage superheroes. She played the villain Gwen, who turns into the Royal Pain. Further success came following Sky High; Winstead starred as Wendy Christensen in the 2006 horror movie Final Destination 3, directed by James Wong and produced by Glen Morgan. Winstead collaborated with the same filmmakers again later in 2006, on the slasher film, Black Christmas; her work garnered her a nomination for “Scream Queen” at the 2007 Scream Awards.
