Marvel released a new look at The Falcon and the Winter Soldier character John Walker ahead of the show’s release on March 19. Picking up five months after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the Disney+ series will find Sam Wilson’s Falcon and Bucky Barnes’ Winter Soldier adjusting to their lives following the revelation that Steve Rogers returned to the past to be with Peggy Carter. Wilson and Barnes, who were connected through Rogers’ Captain America, now have to find their way without him.

The cast of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier sees many familiar MCU faces returning, including Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, and Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo. The series will also see Don Cheadle reprise his role as James Rhodes, who could be there to set up his upcoming War Machine Disney+ show Armor Wars. Rounding out the cast is Erin Kellyman, who will play Karli Morgenthau, and Wyatt Russell, who will play John Walker.

Now, USA Today revealed an image of Russell’s Walker, who appears to be in a football locker room, teasing that this scene could precede the sequence in the trailer that sees Walker running onto a football field as Captain America. The showrunner, Malcolm Spellman, has teased a “veteran’s story” for Walker, hinting the character could be suffering from PTSD. Check out the new image below.

In Marvel comics, John Walker goes by the alias U.S. Agent, a kind of twisted foil to Rogers’ Captain America, whose love for country is more nationalistic than Rogers’ patriotism. Russell’s Walker will likely serve as an antagonizing force to Wilson and Barnes, as trailers for the show have teased. Falcon and Winter Soldier will have their hands full, as they will also have to deal with the villainous Zemo and the new group, the Flag Smashers, led by Kellyman’s Morgenthau.

Walker as the U.S. Agent could allow for some fascinating storytelling opportunities in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Perhaps, with the Sokovia Accords still in place, the U.S. government could confiscate Captain America’s shield from Sam Wilson and give it to Walker, designating him as the new, Accords-approved Captain America. This would lead to an epic showdown featuring Falcon and Winter Soldier taking on Walker, with Wilson and Barnes proving that they know better than Walker what it takes to carry on the Captain America mantle.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the highly anticipated Disney+ follow-up to WandaVision, will begin streaming on March 19 at 12:00 A.M. PST, so all questions regarding plot, antagonists, characters, and storylines will soon be answered.
