For most Friends fans, watching Joey’s highlight reels is the preferred choice, as his dim personality coupled with his lovable quality make him out to be a hilarious character. Unfortunately, this meant Joey’s emotional moments go severely underrated. And yet, Joey did have many sad times on the show, which brought upon quotes that would just break any Friends fan’s heart.

Of course, that doesn’t make his funnier moments any less entertaining, since Joey always seemed to have something to say to relieve the tension. With all that in mind, it’s worth checking out these heartbreaking and funny Joey quotes that will make anyone appreciate his characterization.

10 Heartbreaking: “I Want Just One Moment Of Relief From The Gut-Wrenching Pain…”

Joey found it more than a little difficult to cope with his newfound feelings for Rachel, as she was not only pregnant with Ross’ child but clearly did not feel the same way about him. Still, he reached the point where he couldn’t help but visibly be hurt just by looking at her.

This is why he burst out in frustration when Gunther asked him a simple question, telling everyone that he wanted to be the woman he loved on Valentine’s day, or at the very least have some measure of relief from the constant pain he was in.

While the rest of the friends debated over whether Ross and Rachel would break up or stay together, Joey had some other thoughts in his mind. Startling everyone, he asked them if he needed to get a “new walk,” in that if he literally needed to walk differently.

When the others were understandably confused, Joey made it even weirder by claiming he was looking for a “take notice walk” and wanted to be the center of attention through this. It was a bizarre thought at the strangest of times, but it was undeniably hilarious.

Of the many fan favorite pairings on the show, Joey and Chandler would probably be everyone’s first choice. And yet, these two had a big falling out in Season 4, when Chandler kissed Joey’s girlfriend Kathy. Joey was hurt enough by this betrayal that he decided to walk out of Chandler’s life.

While it came as a shock to Chandler the lengths Joey was taking, the latter explained that he just couldn’t stand to be around the guy whom he considered his best friend yet still went around his back. It truly seemed to be end of a once perfect friendship.

7 Funny: “Don’t Look At Me! You’re The One Who Wanted To Look At Some Burger King Comet!”

Ross and Joey always made for a hilarious pair given their vastly different intellects, and it was clear they were in for a new kind of hijinks here. After the others left, when they got sick of waiting for the “Bapstein-King” Comet to show, only Ross and Joey stayed behind.

The latter made things worse, though, as he took the stopper away from the door, meaning the two were stuck on the roof. As his defense, Joey blamed Ross for making them check out the “Burger King” Comet. To be fair, Joey’s version does sound way more interesting.

It’s a shame that Janine didn’t turn out to be the one for Joey, seeing as she came a heck of a lot closer than almost every other love interest. The reason for their break-up happened to be her clashes with Monica and Chandler.

Despite Joey genuinely having feelings for Janine, he had to choose his best friends instead of her. It was clear that he was hurting bad afterward, and when he said this quote Joey was emotionally drained to have to go through with it.

If only everyone were as gullible Joey wanted, then a lot of embarrassing moments might have been avoided. When Ross got stuck in his leather pants, he called Joey for help, who had this wild solution for his dilemma.

He claimed Ross could simply mix up powder and paste together, and if they were the same color as his pants, Ross had a shot at making his date believe he was still wearing pants. Maybe Ross should have tried out Joey’s theory and seen what happened.

4 Heartbreaking: “I Don’t Know What To Do…What Do I Do?”

Knowing the problem that arose with his feelings for Rachel, Joey was helpless with what he could do to avoid it. After confessing to Ross of his love for her, Joey could finally let out the confusion he’d been carrying over the situation.

The poor guy was still absolutely lost, though, as he uttered this quote with a completely defeated tone. All he could do at that point was ask Ross, the father of Rachel’s baby, if there was anything at all that could be done for him to let it go.

All of the gibberish Joey said in his ill-fated attempt to speak French could be included here, although this one would have to be the best. As it happened, Joey had no clue how to speak the language, instead saying whatever his mouth would spew out and believing it to be right.

Despite Phoebe’s urging against it, Joey went to the audition anyway, where he was supposed to say that his name was Claude. However, Joey somehow managed to make a question out of what was meant to be a statement, all in utter gibberish.

2 Heartbreaking: “I Feel Like I’m Losing My Friends.”

By the end of the series, Joey was the only character who seemed to be right where he started off. While the others were either married or starting families, Joey still had his friends to consider as his own family.

Sadly for him, he had to deal with this change in his life, with all his friends seemingly moving on from him. Even more heartbreaking was how he could only say this to the little girl whose house Monica and Chandler were buying, as no-one else seemed to understand how isolated Joey was feeling.

1 Funny: “I Wasn’t Trying To Save Ross…My Sandwich Was Next To Ross.”

Joey’s love for food is infamous for the outrageous lengths he’s been seen to go to just so that he could have a bite. The craziest one would have to be when he jumped in front of what he thought was a bullet, which everyone thought was an act to save Ross.

However, he admitted that wasn’t quite the case, as he had this to say to Chandler. As it turned out, since his sandwich was next to Ross, Joey forgot all care for his life and tried to save his meal from a bullet. It makes no sense, yet Joey was willing to risk it all for food.
