Genshin Impact’s five-star characters may be enticing, but there are plenty of great four-star characters for players who don’t want to spend money.

When one thinks about Genshin Impact, it’s pretty likely that it’s the standout five-star characters that come to most peoples’ heads. After all, they’re used the most in marketing — alongside the game’s mascot Paimon — and they get lengthy, always-unlockable story quests revolving around them. On the other hand, four-stars tend to be viewed as weaker since they’re easier to obtain, and many of them get overshadowed despite having compelling stories as many of them are based around events and time-limited.

This doesn’t mean that four-stars can’t be incredibly strong in their own right. Free-to-play players don’t need to worry about not having enough characters to make a usable team around whoever their favorites end up being. In some cases, there are four-stars that are seen as vital to certain comps and don’t have a comparable five-star equivalent to date.

10 Barbara’s A Solid Dedicated Healer For Those Without Qiqi, Jean Or Kokomi

Although she tends to be overlooked, Barbara is a great dedicated healer able to provide a lot of much-needed healing to players’ teams. Originally, most content could be breezed through with shields or by dodging, but over time this has begun to change.

Certain enemy types or events will inflict statuses that can only be healed — and the damage goes through shields. Certain enemies will actually punish players for using shields, making straight healing the only real option. The only thing to watch out for with Barbara is that she constantly applies the Wet debuff to her allies.

9 Bennett’s Attack Boost And Synergy With Other Pyro-Users Make Him A Must-Have

Bennett is an invaluable support unit, being noted as not just one of the best four-stars but one of the best overall units in Genshin’s entirety. Bennett provides decent support through his ultimate’s healing, but it’s the attack buff he grants his allies that truly lets him shine.

The fact that he’s Pyro is a plus, too, given just how many Pyro Main DPS units there are in the game. When two Pyro units are in the same team, the entire party enjoys an additional 25% Attack buff.

8 Fischl Is Great For Applying Electro Off-The-Field

Fischl is an invaluable four-star Electro character who can also double as a Physical DPS given the right build. It’s not anything about Fischl herself that makes her so useful, but rather Oz, the companion bird that she keeps with her at all times.

Fischl can summon Oz and then leave him on the field, even if she swaps with another party member. This makes it easy for her to deal consistent damage as well as apply Electro to enemies even when she’s switched out.

7 Sucrose Is So Much More Than A Budget Version Of Venti

Ever since the early days of Genshin, Sucrose has gotten a lot of misconceptions thrown her way. It’s common for a lot of members of the fandom to see her as little more than a budget Venti, but she’s a hyper-powerful Elemental Mastery buffer who deserves her own spotlight to shine in.

Thanks to Sucrose’s passive, she can give all other members of her party an Elemental Mastery buff consistent with 20% of her own. Not only that, but her Elemental Burst is great for grouping enemies together and keeps them on the ground so that all Melee DPS can still hit them, unlike certain units with Venti.

6 Xiangling Is An Incredibly Underrated Pyro Sub-DPS

Xiangling tends to be overlooked, mostly due to just how many beloved Pyro characters there are, as well as how many great polearm users have been added to the game since launch. However, this doesn’t mean that she can’t pack a fiery punch, and she’s actually a terrific Pyro support or Sub-DPS.

Her Elemental Skill drops her panda companion Guoba on the field, allowing him to consistently deal Pyro damage and set up reactions. In addition to this, her Elemental Burst does the same thing by encasing the active character in spinning wheels of flame that deal damage and help better chain reactions with her party’s main damage dealer.

5 Xingqiu Is A Top-Tier Support For Characters Like Hu Tao

Xingqiu is considered to be one of the best supports in the entire game. This is entirely due to how his Elemental Skill and Burst work, both of which surround the active character with rain-swords that can heal Xingqiu’s allies, buff their damage, and help to trigger reactions.

If players are lucky enough to find themselves with a Hu Tao, Xingqiu is considered a must-have with her because of this. The amount of utility his swords give is not to be overlooked, helping her proc easy Vaporize reactions and being able to heal small amounts in a pinch.

4 Diona’s Ability To Shield And Heal Makes Her A Versatile Support

Diona is one of the most versatile supports in all of Genshin. Whereas most healers are pure healers, and most shielders don’t have any healing in their kit — unless one is talking about Max Constellation Zhongli, which F2P players aren’t going to have anyway — Diona has a little bit of both.

While this does mean that her shields can’t match Zhongli and her healing isn’t on par with Barbara or Kokomi, she can apply whichever the situation calls for. She’s also great for setting up reactions due to the big Cryo-over-time field that her ultimate leaves behind.

3 Rosaria’s Low Cooldowns And Cryo Application Make Her A Great Support

Rosaria is a fan-favorite among the Genshin community for her unique, standout design. Thankfully, her playstyle is also quite enjoyable, and her fast cooldowns make her a great energy battery for other members of her party.

Not only that, but similar to Diona, Rosaria’s ultimate unleashes a giant Cryo field for easy element application. She’s a decent Sub-DPS as well, so players who already have their support slot filled and don’t need Diona still have a great Cryo option.

2 Beidou Is Great For Early-Game Players Who Are Still Learning Mechanics

Beidou is a great Sub-DPS and another option for players who don’t find themselves meshing with Fischl. Her Elemental Skill grants a shield as well as counter-attack damage, which is great for players still learning mechanics and gives them a sizable reward for doing so.

She’s also a Claymore user, meaning she’s great at busting down shields or mining ores players find while traversing the world. Finally, the nature of her skills makes it easy for her to apply her Electro element, which is helpful for many players.

1 Noelle Is Guaranteed For Every Player And Is A Decent Damage Dealer

Noelle is incredibly unique in that she’s a tanky Geo claymore-user who looks like she’d primarily be used as a support at first glance. After all, her Elemental Skill grants her a shield, and her auto-attacks while shielded can heal multiple allies at once.

However, the most popular build for Noelle is using her as a Main DPS who’s incredibly tanky and hard to kill. Since all players are guaranteed to get at least one Noelle through the cheap Beginner’s Wish that new players are granted, she’s a good choice for anyone’s party, at least until one obtains better units.
