Pulp Fiction, arguably being Quentin Tarantino’s best movie, has inspired many movies. Here’s how they rank on IMDb.

With Pulp Fiction arguably being Quentin Tarantino’s best movie, it changed the way studios greenlit movies, as the movie was one of the first of its kind to introduce the idea of a non-linear narrative to mainstream audiences. And surprisingly enough, audiences bought into the unique way of storytelling. Not only that but the way the movie combines multi-stranded narratives also left an impression on viewers.

Though all of these styles have been used in movies before, they had never been used to the effect the Tarantino implemented them in Pulp Fiction, and it unsurprisingly influenced a whole wave of filmmakers to essentially make their very own Pulp Fiction… to very varying degrees of success.

10 Destiny Turns on the Radio (1995) – 4.6

Funnily enough, Tarantino actually appears in this Pulp Fiction inspired film, inspiring many conversations.

Though every time Tarantino has appeared in his own movies hasn’t hurt the movie too much, it might not have been the best move in this case.

9 The Big Hit (1998) – 6.1

Starring Mark Wahlberg during his rise to taking over Hollywood in the late 90s, The Big Hit is much sillier than Pulp Fiction, but it completely embraces it and is what sets it apart from the 1994 classic.

The movie is an action flick that often purposefully falls into parody, but it’s also full of pop culture references in the middle of shoot-outs, including Wahlberg’s Melvin returning a copy of King Kong Lives to a video store.

8 2 Days In The Valley (1996) – 6.5

2 Days In The Valley is an almost paint by numbers version of Pulp Fiction, only the filmmaker painting is going outside the lines and using the wrong colors.

The movie follows a group of murderers who try to get to the bottom of an assassination gone wrong. It has some massive stars, including James Spader, Charlize Theron, and Jeff Daniels, but it’s rating still is only middling.

7 Things To Do In Denver When You’re Dead (1995) – 6.8

Being another entry with some star power behind it, Things To Do In Denver When You’re Dead stars Andy Garcia, Steve Buscemi, and even Christopher Lloyd.

However, it’s another movie full of grab-bag pop culture references that don’t seem to be related to anything and are completely pulled out of thin air. Though the supporting cast is strong, it doesn’t rank that well.

6 Get Shorty (1995) – 6.9

Though Get Shorty is one of the movies Michael Keaton almost starred in, the movie is led by John Travolta, which may have something to do with the fact he also starred in Pulp Fiction.

Overall, this movie isn’t highly rated, but it’s not the poorest performer.

5 Go (1999) – 7.2

Directed by Doug Limen, Go is by far the best of the Pulp Fiction inspired movies there are, but it doesn’t hold back on elevating every Tarantino trademark to the highest possible level.

The movie follows three intertwining narratives with a ton of drugs, action, murder, and, of course, sarcastic and clever dialogue. The movie is exciting and much more fast-paced than even Pulp Fiction, and the runtime goes by in an instant.

4 Grosse Pointe Blank (1997) – 7.3

Grosse Pointe Blank’s script was written before the release of Pulp Fiction, but it may have seen some major updates after that movie’s success. The John Cusack movie follows a hitman and it’s expectedly full of grandiose violence and pop culture references ensue.

The movie doesn’t hide its influences either, as the movie references Pulp Fiction during a shoot out at a video store, as there is a cardboard cutout of Bruce Willis’ character in the movie, Butch.

3 Lucky Number Slevin (2006) – 7.7

Not only does Lucky Number Slevin star Bruce Willis, who obviously played Butch in Pulp Fiction, but both movies enjoy intertwining narratives too, though Lucky Number Slevin seems to enjoy it a little too much.

The storyline keeps moving at 100mph without looking back and it can sometimes get caught up in its own ingenuity. However, the movie is one of the best films influenced by Pulp Fiction and one of the most underrated ensemble movies of the past 20 years.

2 The Boondock Saints (1999) – 7.8

Though The Boondock Saints was derided by critics, it is absolutely beloved amongst general audiences, which is the reason why it’s one of the most overrated gangster movies ever.

The movie borrows Pulp Fiction’s trademark long monologues that seem to make little sense.

1 Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) – 8.2

Being another one of the few movies that Pulp Fiction positively influenced, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels took the pulp overseas, making it one of the best British movies of the ’90s.

Not only is it a violent gangster movie, but it’s full of moronic characters throwing around juicy quips and one-liners while getting themselves into trouble. It also helped Guy Ritchie carve out his own style.
