Each weapon has a situation that they will thrive in. Snipers are better for taking out targets at long distances. Melee weapons are best for close-range combat. Here is the best weapon of each type for GTA Online.

• Pistol: AP Pistol: This weapon is fully automatic when firing. An extended clip can bring this weapon up to 36 bullets per round and completely eliminate the mass hoards of weaker AI the player will face against. This one is also one of the highest damaging weapons for pistols in the game. This pistol will be available for purchase at Ammu-Nation once reaching Rank 33. It will go for $1000.
• Machine Gun: Combat MG: This has a decent damage output out of all the Machine Gun weapons. Although, this one takes a while to unlock. The player will need to reach Rank 80 in order to unlock this weapon. It is the best in its class but requires the player to put hundreds of hours into the game to reach that point. The normal MG can be unlocked at Rank 50, so use this until reaching Rank 80 to get the better one. Players can purchase it at Ammu-Nation for $14,800.
• Assault Rifle: Special Carbine: These are the most useful weapon in almost every combat. Fortunately, this weapon does not need much of a grind to unlock. This weapon came along as part of The Business Update DLC and players can unlock it right at Rank 1 in GTA Online. This gun is also one of the most accurate weapons in the game, making it optimal for lining up headshots.
• Heavy Weapon: Minigun: The Minigun can only be unlocked once reaching a whopping 120 Ranks in GTA Online. This weapon can tear through any enemy, car, or tank within seconds. It shoots out a powerful wave of bullets at super-fast speeds. It may take a while to unlock this, so the Grenade Launcher or Rocket Launcher is a good alternative.
• Sniper Rifle: Heavy Sniper: The Heavy Sniper is the most powerful and accurate weapon in GTA Online. The only issue with this weapon is that the weapon does not unlock until Rank 90, making it one of the harder weapons to unlock. The grind is worth it since it holds stronger damage, accuracy, and range. The basic Sniper Rifle is an excellent alternative, as it unlocks at Rank 21.
• Melee: Any: Melee weapons are not the most useful in combat. They are good for close-range encounters, but enemies will most likely take the shot before getting closer. The Hatchet is a great choice just for flare alone. Butchering up an enemy with this massive ax just feels cool to pull off.
• Shotgun: Bullpup Shotgun: Massive damage output to any enemy at close range, especially to other players. These are amongst the most used weapons in the game but the Bullpup takes the cake as the most powerful. This shotgun can be purchased right out of the gate by reaching Rank 1 in GTA Online.
• Throwable Weapon: Grenade: Grenades are just fun to have around. Throw them at a friend to freak them out. It’s a good time. But they are also very useful for blowing up trucks and blockades. Setting one off with cause a domino effect to happen, taking down everything in the nearby vicinity. Players can purchase this at Ammu-Nation beginning at Rank 15 $for 250.
