Slytherin is easily the least liked house at Hogwart’s, but how do the individual Slytherin characters rank in likability?

Out of all of the houses at Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, it’s hard to deny that Slytherin house has the worst reputation (or at the very least the darkest reputation), and the Harry Potter saga does not do much to dissuade readers and viewers from the belief that Slytherin is the evil house of Hogwart’s.
But of course, nothing is ever quite that simple. The worst wizard who ever lived was in Slytherin, but one of the bravest wizards who ever lived was in Slytherin too. So with that in mind, here are the most prominent Slytherins in the series, ranked by likability.
10 Voldemort
Of course, it doesn’t take a lot of consideration to figure out who the least likable student in Slytherin history is.
The house of the snake as a reputation for being home to many dark wizards, but Voldemort has really done all of his fellow bad Slythers a favor by being the worst wizard in history. Heck, he’s so unlikable that even the dark witches and wizards who followed him don’t seem to like him all that much, which says a lot.
9 Bellatrix Lestrange
One of the most terrible Slytherins in the history of Hogwarts is obviously Bellatrix Lestrange. While her level of evil can’t quite match Voldemort’s, it’s only because she doesn’t have the determination or self-control to actually come up with a plan and execute it.
At her heart, she is just as evil as Voldemort, she is just less capable of hurting as many people as quickly and easily as he does.
8 Dolores Umbridge
Dolores Umbridge is a witch who truly embodies the banality of some evils. She is cruel, self-obsessed, and controlling, and she uses the rules of her ministry and her role at Hogwarts to do as many sadistic things as she can think of.
But she doesn’t have ideas that are any loftier than that. She is evil and mean just because she is, and she is one of the many witches who give Slytherin a bad name.
7 Lucius Malfoy
Lucius was raised to believe that he is one of the most exceptional wizards who has ever lived, and he accordingly treats everyone that he meets like the dirt on his shoe because of it.
He’s a bad guy, but once again, he’s not a bad guy with ideas. He hurts people for his own benefit and because he doesn’t care about anyone but himself and his own family.
6 Narcissa Malfoy
Lucius and Narcissa are truly a match made in hell. Narcissa isn’t quite as purely evil as her deranged sister Bella, but she only cares about the advancement of herself and her own family, no matter what the cost is to the rest of the world.
She is just as arrogant and bigoted and Lucius, and her only redeeming moment in the series was lying about Harry Potter’s death.
5 Draco Malfoy
Draco spent his entire career at Hogwart’s as Harry’s main rival, but one thing that can be said for him is that he was at least only a child when these things happened, and he proved himself to be capable of change in adulthood.
Considering where he came from, it’s no surprise that he was initially the mirror image of his parents, but at least he changed after coming to the realization that his prejudices have extremely real and dire consequences.
4 Horace Slughorn
Professor Slughorn is one of the most prominent Slytherins in the story who actually isn’t one of the bad guys.
Yes, he is overly concerned with image and he lets his ambition get the better of him, but he’s certainly not evil, and the fact that he feels such intense shame over the part he played in the creation of Voldemort’s Horcruxes demonstrates that he has some decency within him.
3 Andromeda Tonks
Like nearly everyone in the Black family save for Sirius, Andromeda Tonks was sorted into Slytherin.
However, she quickly distinguished herself from the blood purists in her family, and she really demonstrated the classic Slytherin trait of loyalty when she decided to leave her family behind to stay with her husband Ted.
Andromeda didn’t make it into the films, but her daughter Nymphadora is a testament to what a brilliant woman she really is.
2 Regulus Black
The greatest unsung hero of the Black family, and quite possibly one of the greatest unsung heroes of wizarding history, is Regulus Black. He initially went down the traditional route of every Black. He was interested in dark magic, and when Voldemort rose to power he didn’t hesitate to follow him.
But he slowly became disillusioned with Voldemort and realized that he had to be stopped, so he stole one of the Dark Lord’s Horcruxes with the intention of destroying it.
1 Severus Snape
Although Severus is clearly a very flawed character who often only did what was right because of his personal vendettas, it’s undeniable that he is one of the most important heroes in wizarding history.
He played the greatest double agent of all time and he was instrumental in the downfall of the Dark Lord. His character arc truly demonstrated all of the best traits of Slytherin (as well as some of the worst traits too).
