Harry Potter The Death Eaters Ranked By Likability

Known as Voldemort’s loyal followers, Death Eaters are one of the most feared characters in Harry Potter. They do Voldemort’s bidding, and it stops at nothing short of torture, battery, and murder. These characters usually start out as misguided Slytherins and then turn into skull mask-wearing, cloaked villains.

There are many characters out there Potterheads like and love, but what about Death Eaters? Could they be some of the characters fans enjoy reading about and seeing on the big screen?

10 Peter Pettigrew

Harry Potter The Death Eaters Ranked By Likability

The worst death eater on this list is the reason Harry Potter lost his parents in the first place – Peter Pettigrew. He is the one who sold out Lily and James Potter to Lord Voldemort, led them to their deaths, and caused Harry Potter to be the orphan the whole world knows and loves. He was also the one that brought Voldemort back to life. He may not look like it, or seem like it, but he’s one of the worst Death Eaters alive.

9 Bellatrix Lestrange

Second to Peter Pettigrew is Bellatrix Lestrange. She commits vile acts throughout Harry Potter’s life, such as killing her own cousin and Harry’s only remaining family, Sirius; torturing Hermione, and torturing Neville Longbottom’s parents into insanity. She’s touted as one of Voldemort’s most loyal servants, almost to the point of showing love for him. She’s certifiably evil and one of the least likable characters in Harry Potter.

8 Lucius Malfoy

Besides the fact that he’s Lucius Malfoy, there are many reasons for his unlikability. He constantly thrusts his pure-blood superiority, he pressures Draco Malfoy into great stress with his expectations for him, and he’s one of Voldemort’s most influential Death Eaters.

Although the Malfoys eventually falter their allegiance from Voldemort, Lucius Malfoy still allowed horrific acts to occur. He slipped Ginny Weasley a Horcrux when she was only in her second year, which led to her trauma. He was also behind the raid of the Department of Mysteries and he allowed the torture of Harry Potter and friends inside Malfoy Manor. Not to mention he was an embarrassing suck-up to Voldemort once he returned.

7 Antonin Dolohov

Antonin Dolohov is known as one of the most feared of all the Death Eaters. He is ruthless in the fact that he’s taken down famous wizards. He was also responsible for the deaths of Molly Weasley’s brothers. Additionally, he conquered Harry, Hermione, and Neville in a battle all by himself. His greatest cruelty, though, is the fact that he is the one that kills Remus Lupin.

6 Barty Crouch Jr.

Barty Crouch Jr., played by the infamously talented David Tennant, made his appearance in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Just from this movie alone, audiences witnessed him attempt to kill Harry Potter by making him participate and win in the Triwizard Tournament so Voldemort can kill him once he touched the Triwizard Cup/Portkey. Not to mention he killed his own father, Bartimus Crouch, when Mr. Crouch discovered Mad-Eye Moody was actually his Death Eater son.

5 Corban Yaxley

Corban Yaxley was a loyal Death Eater to Voldemort, fighting in the First Wizarding War and the Second Wizarding War. He was also the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, so he was the one who caused Ron’s splice wound as he was chasing Harry, Ron, and Hermione out of the Ministry in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One.

He isn’t a prominent or significant Death Eater in Harry Potter, but his actions against Ron was why the trio couldn’t Apparate to find the Horcruxes, and why it took longer for them to defeat Voldemort.

4 Igor Karkaroff

Igor Karkaroff has no known blood on his hands, but he was a Death Eater that gathered information for Voldemort. Other Death Eaters may see Karkaroff as a coward, especially since he fled on the night of Voldemort’s return in The Goblet of Fire. He also gave the Ministry of Magic information on Death Eaters in a plea bargain.

He isn’t better than any of the rest of the Death Eaters, but at least he revealed other Death Eaters for their incarceration.

3 Regulus Arcturus Black

Like the rest of the Black family, except for Sirius, Regulus Arcturus Black became a Death Eater. However, he turns his back on Voldemort and attempts to kill one of his Horcruxes – the locket Harry and Dumbledore seek to destroy in Voldemort’s cave.

In the movie, Harry opens the locket and finds a note from R.A.B. on how he’s stolen the actual locket and is meant to destroy it. Unfortunately, Black dies while trying to rid the world of it. These good intentions are why Regulus Arcturus Black is one of the decent Death Eaters out there.

2 Draco Malfoy

Draco Malfoy is the Slytherin prince we love to hate and hate to love. Forced by his family and social responsibility, Draco Malfoy becomes a Death Eater. But unlike his father, he ends up not being a very good one due to his apparent identity struggle throughout the latter half of the series. He realizes he may not be the Death Eater his family wants him to be. With all the tasks his fellow Death Eaters have him do, he’s reluctant. He even shows deep remorse from what happens with Katie Bell. This struggle reveals that not all enemies are enemies, and there are more than what meets the eye.

1 Severus Snape

It was duty that made Severus Snape become a Death Eater, but love redeemed him into a spy for Dumbledore. His passionate, never-ending love for Lily Potter is the reason Severus Snape is the good guy we know today.

Some people won’t agree, however. A large population has stated that Severus is the worst in how he abused Harry Potter during his time at Hogwarts. Whichever one may be true, the fact remains that he kept an eye on Harry Potter till his death at the Battle of Hogwarts, which makes him the noblest of all Death Eaters.
