While there are plenty of upcoming superhero movies and sequels for fans to enjoy, those who enjoy a good biopic will also have a lot to choose from in the near future. Some of these movies will focus on figures that are known all around the world while others might shed light on interesting people with who audiences might not be familiar.
10 House Of Gucci
Ridley Scott returns behind the camera for a true-crime story with a famous name attached to it. House of Gucci will tell the story of the fall of the Gucci fashion family following the death of Maurizio Gucci at the hands of his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani.
Adam Driver and Lady Gaga will star as the two leads, but they are backed by an all-star cast that includes Al Pacino and Jared Leto. With a legendary filmmaker like Scott at the helm of such an interesting star-studded story, this has become one of the most anticipated upcoming movies.
9 The Eyes Of Tammy Faye
While some biographies deal with beloved icons, there are also those interesting stories of more controversial figures. That seems to be the aim of the upcoming movie, The Eyes of Tammy Faye.
Jessica Chastain will star as the titular character, a televangelist who grew an empire from meager beginnings alongside her husband, Jim Bakker (Andrew Garfield). Their incredible rise to fame was met with an equally stunning fall from grace as scandals and crimes crumpled their business. The movie will be directed by The Big Sick’s Michael Showalter.
8 Maestro
After directing the Best Picture nominated A Star is Born, Bradley Cooper has lined up his next directing project which will also be focused on the world of music. Maestro will tell the complex love story between American composer Leonard Bernstein and his wife Felicia.
Cooper will also write the movie along with starring as Bernstein while Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan will play Felecia. It is interesting that Cooper chose to tackle another musical love story, but it will be interesting to see how he tackles such a beloved music figure.
7 Blonde
Marilyn Monroe is one of the most fascinating icons in Hollywood history and seen by many as a deeply tragic figure. There have been numerous movies made about Monroe, but Blonde is an exciting new attempt at exploring her complex life in what should be a unique project.
Ana de Armas is set to play Monroe in the movie that is written and directed by The Assassination of Jesse James filmmaker Andrew Dominik. He has described the movie as featuring very little dialogue and relying on images to tell the story of Monroe.
6 Respect
There are many who consider Aretha Franklin to be the greatest signer of all time so it is quite fitting that the late legend will finally be getting her own biopic with Respect.
The movie takes its appropriate name from Franklin’s most famous song and it will follow Franklin’s life and her amazing, ground-breaking career. Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson will be playing the legend with Forest Whitaker and Marlon Wayans in supporting roles. While Franklin is a daunting role to take, Hudson’s own singing skills are very promising.
5 Being The Ricardos
Fresh off his Best Picture nominated The Trial of the Chicago 7, Aaron Sorkin has already lined up his latest directing project with a very intriguing project. Being the Ricardos is a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most famous sitcoms of all time, I Love Lucy, and the married stars of the show, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem will play Ball and Arnaz who face crises that could end their careers and marriage while prepping for their show. Sorkin is great at these play-like set-ups and it should be fun seeing these two stars playing the famous couple.
4 King Richard
While most movies deal directly with the famous figures of their stories, King Richard looks to take a new approach in looking at someone who influenced world-famous figures. The movie will star Will Smith as Richard Williams, the father and coach of tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams.
It will be interesting to see how the movie handles the legacy of these incredibly accomplished women through the story of their father. It seems like an ideal role for Smith as well as a stirring sports drama.
3 Spencer
Given the recent public fascination and controversy surrounding the Royal Family, Spencer is probably a movie that will be on many people’s radar. The movie will take place over the course of a Christmas holiday for the Royals when Princess Diana decided to end her marriage to Prince Charles.
Kristen Stewart makes for an interesting choice to play Diana who is a beloved figure all over the world. Stewart continues to prove herself to be a versatile and compelling actor, and with a rich story and character such as this, the project could be something special.
2 Untitled Hulk Hogan Biopic
Chris Hemsworth will be taking a break from playing Thor in order to take on another muscle-bound icon. He will be playing Hulk Hogan, one of the most famous professional wrestlers of all time in the new movie that explores Hogan’s story.
This will be one of Hemsworth’s biggest roles outside of the MCU and it will be good to see him able to show new aspects of his talent. This will also be one of the rare movies that look at the huge world of wrestling which could be a lot of fun.
1 Untitled Elvis Presley Project
Another huge icon of the music industry will be getting a long-awaited biopic at the hands of a very innovative auteur. Baz Luhrmann will be directing this story of the life and career of rock music pioneer Elvis Presley.
After his standout performance in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Austin Butler looks ready to become an A-lister as he will star as Elvis and Tom Hanks will play his longtime manager Colonel Tom Parker. With Luhrmann’s penchant for visually dazzling movies, this will likely be more exciting than your typical music biopic.
