House Of Gucci: Main Characters Ranked By Intelligence

From shrewd businessmen like Rodolfo Gucci to manipulative masterminds like Patrizia Reggiani, House of Gucci is full of intelligent characters.

Because the new biographical crime drama House of Gucci revolves around the various characters’ plans and schemes to outsmart one another in order to secure more power and money for themselves, the film features a cast of characters with varying levels of intelligence.

Some of these characters are not as smart as they think they are and end up getting taken advantage of, like Paolo Gucci and Aldo Gucci, while others try to use their intelligence to manipulate people but end up getting their comeuppances, such as Pina and Patrizia. A few even manage to be smart enough to figure out how to wind up controlling the House of Gucci.

8 Paolo Gucci

From the very beginning, it is clear that the other characters think that Paolo Gucci is the least intelligent member of the family, with his father repeatedly describing him as “an idiot.” Unfortunately for him, he manages to live up to this assessment.

In this stylish crime movie, he is the worst designer but is completely unaware of it, embarrassing himself by showing Rodolfo his subpar designs. He is just as bad of a businessman as well, inadvertently getting his father arrested and foolishly agreeing to sell his shares of the company.

7 Pina

As the host of a televised psychic show, Pina is able to use her intelligence to manipulate viewers into giving her their money. Her deception is strong enough to fool Patrizia, and she quickly becomes one of her most trusted advisors. However, Pina makes the horrible decision of encouraging Patrizia to have Maurizio killed.

Pina should have been smart enough to realize that Patrizia would never get away with killing someone as high-profile as a Gucci. Her dumb decision not only cost Maurizio his life, but also landed her in prison for her role in the assassination.

6 Aldo Gucci

Despite being one of the most likable characters in the movie, Aldo Gucci is not smart enough to see how his offer to make Maurizio part of the company might come back to bite him.

However, it quickly becomes clear that Aldo is stuck in the past and is unable to lead Gucci into the future of fashion. Unable to manage his familial relationships and failing to run the company properly, he means well but proves that he is not one of the smarter characters in the movie.

5 Rodolfo Gucci

Rodolfo is a pretentious and condescending character who believes himself to be better and smarter than everyone else. This leads him to treat his family poorly and cut off his own son.

While he has had undeniable success in his business endeavors, his bad decisions such as trusting Domenico De Sole, forgetting to sign the final document to leave his estate to Maurizio without major taxes, and pushing Maurizio away, all help lead to the downfall of the empire he helped build. For all of his pride, his decisions prove that he is not as clever as he thinks that he is.

4 Maurizio Gucci

The figure at the center of this biographical movie, Maurizio Gucci deserves credit for being smart enough to realize that he does not want to be like the rest of his family. When he eventually gets sucked into the family business, he proves his intelligence by bringing in the right people to steer Gucci in the right direction.

However, as smart as he may be, he falls victim to Patrizia’s manipulation. He ignores his father’s warnings and does not see all of the signs that she is using him and it costs him his life.

3 Patrizia Reggiani

Patrizia Reggiani is the mastermind behind many of the film’s events. Starting with practically nothing, she is able to manipulate her way into a luxurious life. She convinces Maurizio to take a job he does not want, orchestrates Aldo’s ousting, and forges the documents they need to avoid taxes.

She is a charming con artist who uses her shrewdness to get whatever she wants. However, she drastically overestimates her own abilities and her ill-conceived murder plot ends up being her undoing. She is smart enough to build a great life for herself, but she should have known her limits.

2 Nemir Kirdar

While the movie is about the fashion industry, many of the characters prove their intelligence through business decisions rather than creative ones. And, Nemir Kirdar may just be the smartest businessman in the film, as Nemir is able to turn the company around once he removes all of the Guccis.

Joining the company as an outsider, he is able to play his cards perfectly in order to end up just where he wants to be. He knows exactly what he is doing and he is one of the only characters who is able to successfully execute a power play.

1 Domenico De Sole

While characters like Paolo want everyone to know how smart they are, Domenico De Sole plays the long game by taking up an unassuming role in the background for most of the movie. By staying out of the spotlight, he is able to build up the family’s trust and position himself to strike when the moment is right.

Domenico makes the most of his opportunity by fracturing the relationship between Patrizia and Maurizio through his knowledge of the inheritance documents and ultimately buys Maurizio out of the company. Though he may go largely unnoticed for much of the movie, his actions at the end of the film make it clear that he is the most intelligent character in House of Gucci.
