How Kong Can Become MonsterVerses Alpha Without Killing Godzilla

There may be a way for Kong to become the new alpha of the MonsterVerse that doesn’t involve killing the current holder of the title in Godzilla vs. Kong. The role of alpha, which was previously held by Ghidorah in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, was taken over by Godzilla at the end of the movie.

It was made apparent in Godzilla: King of the Monsters that the MonsterVerse’s alpha commands a great deal of power. After beating Rodan, Ghidorah proved how powerful he was to the other Titans, who all accepted Ghidorah as their master and began obediently wreaking havoc on the Earth’s major cities. Now that Godzilla is the alpha, the Titans are staying in line and avoiding conflict with the humans. This is a testament of the alpha’s authority over the creatures. Going into Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla is still the King of the Monsters, but the plot of the movie threatens to change that. One Titan in particular, Kong, doesn’t regard Godzilla as his master and will be coming to blows with him in a dramatic showdown.

If Godzilla somehow falls to Kong in the movie, the MonsterVerse will have a new King of the Monsters. If this were to happen, Kong would finally earn his “King” name. However, it’s possible that Kong doesn’t have to overcome Godzilla to become the alpha. It could be that Kong can steal Godzilla’s crown before their big fight. Since the credits of Godzilla: King of the Monsters has teased that the Titans are on their way to Skull Island, Kong could be in for a fight with some of Godzilla’s minions in the beginning of the movie. If such a confrontation were to happen, Kong could kill a few of them. But if he only incapacitates them or at least leaves a few survivors, they could be greatly impressed by Kong’s prowess in battle.

The Titans deciding to follow Ghidorah only after he beat Rodan shows that an impressive feat of strength is enough to gain their loyalty. With that in mind, it makes sense that the Titans may come to the conclusion that Kong must be the strongest of them all. Also, the Titans who survive the battle may determine that bowing down to Kong may be the only way they can walk away with their lives. These Titans could switch to their allegiance to Kong long before Godzilla and Kong even meet each other.

How would Godzilla react to Kong basically stealing his minions and his crown? Godzilla could head to Skull Island and find himself pitted against his own underlings. His first instinct could be to restore things to the way they were by beating Kong and becoming the alpha again. Taking back what was stolen from him by Kong could be what his story is in Godzilla vs. Kong. As for the Titans who weren’t on Skull Island, it may be that they’ll remain loyal to Godzilla throughout the movie. If so, they could continue to fight beside him. If this is the path the movie takes, there could two groups of Titans – each led by their own alpha – fighting it out in Godzilla vs. Kong. That would explain why a “monster war” was mentioned in a previous synopsis.
