How to Make More Money in Empire of Sin (The Easy Way)

Empire of Sin is a gangster-style strategy game where players can build their own criminal empire. Players will be expected to recruit crew members, manage various rackets, and deal with rival gangs. Set in early 1900s Chicago, the game will fully immerse players in gangster culture as they try to become the best mob boss in the city.

But as can be expected, money is an important part of the game. It allows players to buy more items, engage in more bribes, and generally have an easier time in the game. With money being such an invaluable resource, it only makes sense that the player will want more of it.

Manage Rackets in Empire of Sin

As players can probably suspect, rackets are the player’s primary moneymakers. These rackets can be acquired by raiding certain buildings or eliminating another gang. In the case of the former method, eliminating another major faction will give the player control of each and every racket the mob boss in possession of.

But having rackets is one thing, knowing what to do with them is another. At the most basic level players need to understand the basic qualities of each racket type.

Regardless of playstyle, breweries and speakeasies should be something any player can invest in. This game takes place during the prohibition after all, so there will always be a demand for alcohol. But anyone who wants to specialize in this business will want to micromanage each aspect of the brewery and speakeasy. From the type of alcohol produced based on consumer demand to maximizing how much hooch a speakeasy can sell in a limited amount of time.

This is often best done by giving the speakeasy upgrades like the “Word of Mouth” upgrade, which will attract more customers, and “Deflection”, which will reduce the chance of it being raided by law enforcement. Speaking of upgrades, always be sure to invest in them regardless of racket type. These upgrades can do anything from enhancing profits to increasing security in the event of an enemy attack.

But the greatest piece of advice this article can give players is this: build rackets based on character strengths. The mob boss the player selects at the beginning of the game all have powerful empire bonuses that can benefit certain business types. Several of these bonuses are not exactly minor either. Take Daniel Mckee Jackson as an example. His empire bonuses include a 20% profit increase from casinos and a 25% decrease to brothel raids. This gives this specific mob boss a clear advantage when managing casinos and brothels, so why not use a playstyle that makes ample use of it?

Trade with Other Gangs in Empire of Sin

While rackets are the main source of income for any player, there is something to be said for trading with other gangs. To trade with a gang, sit down with a mob boss, and select the trade option. From here the player can select items and make a trade proposal. This can take the form of money for guns, alcohol for medical supplies, etc. Each trade proposal has a trade rating, which dictates how likely a mob boss is willing to accept the trade proposal.

Players can engage in fair trades and simply trade goods for a reasonable amount of money and/or products. It can give the player a bit of pocket change and gives the gang access to a few resources they may be in dire need of. But this is considered average. Players can make substantial monetary gains from trades if they are willing to engage in a bit of swindling.

In the midst of trading, players should quickly realize that there is a disguise mechanic. This nifty little feature will allow the player to disguise cheap alcohol as a more expensive form of alcohol. So if the player wants to, they can make swill, the cheapest form of alcohol in the game, and try to sell it to someone else by disguising it as something more expensive like whiskey or top-shelf. Have excess swill in a brewery that no one is willing to buy? Disguise it as wrack and sell it to the neighboring gang. Have no alcohol to sell but still want money? Buy alcohol from another gang and sell it back to them under the guise of something more expensive. So long as the other mob boss is willing to accept the trade proposal, that means the player can always make a net profit. There’s no need to feel bad about it either since basically everyone in the game is a criminal. If they get conned out of their money….well, too bad. It’s the players now. Although it should be mentioned that these trade cons can result in the mod boss thinking less of the player.
