How To Stop Spam Calls On TMobile For Free With Scam Shield

Spam/scam calls are nothing but annoying. They’re obtrusive, invasive, and just a waste of time. Thankfully, T-Mobile smartphones can block them for free.

Regardless of which phone someone has or who their service provider is, spam calls tend to be unavoidable. They come out of nowhere, an automated message asks about credit card activity or a car’s warranty, and they seek to do nothing but solicit personal information. Spam calls are easy for some people to detect and hang up on, but for others, it’s not always clear when a call like this should be ignored.

For folks that rely on T-Mobile for their cell service, blocking spam calls is as easy as downloading an app. Per T-Mobile’s instructions, head to the App Store or Google Play Store on iPhone or Android, respectively, search for ‘T-Mobile Scam Shield,’ and download the app for free. Open the app, tap ‘Get started,’ swipe to the right, tap ‘Enable Caller ID’ if the option is there (if not, it’s already been enabled on the account), tap ‘Skip intro’ on the bottom of the screen, and then tap the ‘Turn on’ button on the next screen. Just like that, Scam Shield has been enabled! While the app can technically be downloaded on any phone, it’ll only work if the phone number is associated with a T-Mobile account.

How T-Mobile Scam Shield Works

Getting Scam Shield on a T-Mobile phone is easy enough, but what actually happens once it’s been installed? At its core, Scam Shield automatically prevents detected scam/spam calls from ever ringing someone’s phone. The Caller ID feature shows people exactly who’s calling (even if that person isn’t in their contacts), and the home page on the Scam Shield app shows a live count of how many scam calls have been automatically blocked in the past 30 days. If users want to take a closer look at the calls that are being blocked, all they have to do is open the Scam Shield app, tap ‘Activity,’ and see a full log of calls from their phone number — including ones from legit numbers and scams that were blocked from getting through.

Scam Shield users can also add favorite numbers that will always be allowed to ring a phone. Scam Shield shouldn’t block a legitimate number from getting through, but if it does, adding that number to the Favorites page is a good idea. Open the app, tap ‘Manage,’ tap the ‘+’ icon, and then select a phone number from the list. If multiple numbers need to be added, this can be done as many times as necessary.

Outside of those main features, Scam Shield has a couple of other benefits that T-Mobile customers get for free. Every Scam Shield user is given one free PROXY number that can be accessed via the T-Mobile DIGITS app, which is essentially a secondary number linked to someone’s main phone. If someone needs to use their phone for work but doesn’t want to hand out their personal number, they can set up a PROXY number and access both numbers on one device. Alternatively, if someone needs to change their phone number for any reason, T-Mobile allows one free change once per year. Both of these things can be done by calling 1-800-T-MOBILE.
