The Samsung Galaxy S21 series offers a number of different ways to capture screenshots. The new smartphones from the South Korean tech company are likely to appeal to a large audience and while taking screenshots will not be a primary concern for consumers, it’s a useful tool. Here’s how to take a screenshot on a Galaxy S21 smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 series launched at the company’s Galaxy Unpacked press event January 14, alongside the Galaxy Buds Pro — the company’s latest edition of its wireless earbuds — and the Galaxy SmartTag, its new object finder. The S21 series, which is the latest flagship line from the No. 1 smartphone seller consists of the standard Galaxy S21, the Galaxy S21+ and the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
Taking screenshots with the Samsung Galaxy S21 series is actually quite easy. While there are multiple ways to perform this task, the simplest way is the same as with other Android phones. All the user has to do is press the volume down and power buttons at the same time. These buttons are both located on the right side of the device. When pressed, the phone will take a screenshot and a little launcher will pop up at the bottom of the screen with options on what to do with the image. A circle with a preview of the photo lets the user view the image via an app, but from the launcher, users can also choose to crop the image, save it with a hashtag or share it with others. Some of these actions may require additional permissions that the user will be prompted to approve in advance.
Other Ways To Take Screenshots
Like last year’s Galaxy S20 and Note 20 series, the S21 series also offers additional ways to take screenshots. One option is to turn on the “Palm swipe to capture” option in Settings. The toggle is found under “Motions and gestures” in “Advanced features.” Though, if the user just searches “palm swipe” it should come up. Granted, palm swipe bit of a misnomer. To capture the image, the user should swipe from one side of the screen to the other (either left to right or right to left) with the side of the hand (i.e. the edge length of the index finger or thumb) and not actually the palm. In practice, the feature works reasonably well. As the person is using the side of the hand instead of fingertips, apps or other commands likely won’t be activated by accident. Like with the first method, once the screenshot is taken, a launcher will appear to provide the user with options on what to do with the image.
A third way to take screenshots with the S21 series is called “Scroll capture.” This is a feature that lets the user expand the screenshot after it has been captured and is a great solution for those who want to capture an image of a long article on a website or an image that stretches below the display. First, the user takes a screenshot by either of the first two ways. When the launcher appears, it will have an additional option to scroll down and capture more. Pressing the scroll button will make the screenshot longer and the user can keep hitting the scroll icon until it hits the bottom, whether it’s a web page, image, app screen or whatever is being displayed. Once done, the Samsung Galaxy S21 user can still crop the image (if needed), save it with a hashtag or share it with others.
