Iron Man and Captain America Secretly Sabotaged Falcon & Winter Soldier

Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes’ circumstances in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier were partly because of Iron Man and Captain America. Steve Rogers’ closest pals are up for a new adventure following the events of Avengers: Endgame. But while both participated in the battle and risked their lives to defeat Thanos, they’re treated as outcasts as they move on with their lives through the upcoming Disney+ series.

Iron Man and Captain America led the Avengers’ efforts to undo the horrible implications of the decimation and eradicate the threat posed by Thanos and his minions. While Steve was lucky he survived the ordeal and given the chance to live the life he’d lost after being frozen in ice for several decades, Tony had to give up his own life for the cause. As seen in Spider-Man: Far From Home, both were celebrated all over the world for their dedication to their responsibility as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. That being said, while they got most of the credit for leaving the universe safe from the Mad Titan’s nefarious plans, their actions in the last several years of their MCU journeys contribute to the predicament of some of the fellow heroes that they left behind.

This all started long before Thanos came to play; in Captain America: Civil War, the Avengers were split with regard to how they want to tackle the Sokovia Accords that would put them under a governing body. Iron Man was for it, arguing that it’s best to make concessions so they can re-earn their total freedom in the long run. Meanwhile, Captain America was adamantly against it; coming from his experience in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it made sense that he wanted his autonomy. In the end, their failure to find a middle ground splintered the Avengers — something that made them more vulnerable to the Mad Titan. But even now that the Infinity Saga is done, the decisions that Iron Man and Captain America made in Civil War have ripple effects in the MCU, particularly with regard to Sam and Bucky’s situation in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Based on what’s known about the show thus far, both Sam and Bucky remain to be outcasts as they suffer the consequences of Civil War’s fallout. Despite years since it was in effect, the Sokovia Accords are confirmed to be reinstated following the Infinity Saga, and considering their allegiance to Team Cap, they could very well still be dubbed fugitives. They might have had a better chance at re-establishing their place as heroes in the public eye had Tony not sign the Sokovia Accords with the Avengers put a united front, but while he and Steve patched things up privately, the rest of the world doesn’t know that. As far as everyone is concerned their conflict was never resolved, making it easier for government to insist on implementing the divisive regulation.

Sam and Bucky are positioned to become the next generation of Avenger leaders as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier give them their respective hero’s journeys – but they still haven’t quite reached that level yet. Even Sam is apprehensive about taking on the Captain America mantle knowing how massive of a responsibility it is. So unlike Tony and Steve who were established, both of them would expectedly struggle to assert themselves as part of this new wave of superheroes within the universe. The government and those who want to discredit them would have an easier time doing so; the fact that the Captain America shield which was given to Sam by Steve is being wielded by someone else is already an indication that it will be an uphill climb to get back to the public’s good side.
