Jared Leto teased Morbius’ involvement with The Sinister Six at the recent Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere. The film is Tom Holland’s third solo outing as Peter Parker and will see him do battle with Spider-Man villains from every major live-action Spider-Man franchise – dating back to the Tobey Maguire era. No Way Home premiered to strong reactions this week, and will debut wide for audiences this weekend.

Morbius is currently primed to hit theaters early next year. The film will see Jared Leto step into the role of Dr. Michael Morbius, a brilliant scientist suffering from a rare blood disease. His search for a cure leads him to attempt an experimental treatment, a treatment that eventually goes horribly wrong and turns him into a vampire. Morbius is based on Morbius, the Living Vampire from the Spider-Man comics, who is a frequent foe of Spider-Man and a common member of The Sinister Six, which is a group of Spidey villains who team up to go after Peter Parker. He is also often depicted as a tragic anti-hero, not unlike Eddie Brock a.k.a Venom.

Earlier this week, Leto attended the official Hollywood premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The actor took a photo with Spider-Man actor Holland, and that very photo ended up on the official Morbius Twitter account, revealing a very exciting tease for what’s to come. In fact, the account encouraged audiences to look for the tease, which turned out to be a necklace worn by Leto with the number 6 on it. Check out the post below.

At this point, very little is known about how Leto’s Dr. Michael Morbius will eventually come into contact with Spider-Man. Initially, Sony had pitched films like Morbius and Venom as “adjuncts” to the Spider-Man universe, but the ever-increasing focus on the multiverse has made it clear that anyone can (in theory) cross over with the MCU Spider-Man at some point. Leto himself has made remarks about the multiverse paving the way for some “sinister” team-ups, so while Morbius himself may not currently exist in the proper Marvel Cinematic Universe, audiences may see him enter it for a crossover event.

With all of that in mind, there are still several questions about Leto’s involvement with Holland’s Spider-Man. The necklace worn by the actor at the Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere could indicate that he is secretly in the latest Spider-Man movie as part of No Way Home’s massive villain team-up, or it could simply indicate that he will be part of a later Sinister Six movie that Sony has planned. For now, audiences can catch Spider-Man: No Way Home when the film premieres on December 17, and Morbius will premiere on January 28, 2022.
