Legacies Revealed How To Stop Tribrid Hope But Lizzie Wasted It

Warning: Spoilers for Legacies season 4, episode 7, “Someplace Far Away From All This Violence.”

Hope’s Tribrid transformation may have made her Legacies’ most dangerous character, but recent episodes have revealed how she could potentially be defeated—only for Lizzie to waste the opportunity. Since it debuted in 2018, Legacies has been a lighter addition to The Vampire Diaries universe than its predecessor, The Originals. However, since season 4 began, Legacies has shed its campy sense of humor in favor of a darker tone closer to that of both its parent shows.

The change has been a welcome one according to many viewers, with Legacies improving since it became more like The Originals and The Vampire Diaries. The shift can be traced back to Hope Mikaleson (Danielle Rose Russell) transforming into the Tribrid, a long-awaited moment that saw her defeat Malivore and kill off love interest Landon Kirby (Aria Shahghasemi) in one fell swoop. Hope followed this feat up by immediately attacking Alaric (Matthew Davis), cementing her status as the major villain of Legacies season 4.

Although Tribrid Hope is nigh on fearless and her lack of human emotions makes her tough to reason with, she is not completely unstoppable. There is a magic tree that can kill her according to Cleo (Omono Okojie), but more importantly, she still feels some semblance of guilt over killing Landon judging by her interaction with Dark Josie (Kaylee Bryant) in Legacies season 4, episode 7, “Someplace Far Away from All This Violence.” If the Squad can get Hope to feel something, anything, it can be the key to getting her to turn her humanity back on. Unfortunately, Dark Josie failed to effectively capitalize on this display of humanity since her usual co-conspirator Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) was busy fighting an imaginary Hope in the therapy box. While Legacies season 4’s earlier Twilight nod proved that the therapy box scenes can be clever misdirects, the fact that Lizzie didn’t work together with Dark Josie felt like a missed opportunity to challenge the seemingly unstoppable hybrid.

Hope showed some real fear for the first time since her transformation when Dark Josie threatened to turn her humanity back on, but even Dark Josie wasn’t powerful enough to stop the Tribrid. However, Dark Josie’s power combined with Lizzie’s fury at Hope might have been enough to take her down, even temporarily—but Lizzie was busy playing pretend in the therapy box. Hope’s former friends have more motivation to take her down than the rest of the Super Squad since Hope attacked (and possibly killed) their father/Vampire Diaries star Alaric.

However, the fact that Lizzie was preoccupied with fighting a simulation of Hope meant that the more manipulative and catty of the siblings was unable to challenge Hope at the crucial moment that the Tribrid betrayed her regret over killing Landon. Dark Josie was never going to be the one to make Hope feel like a monster, but Lizzie has made even decent characters feel terrible and could have twisted the knife had she been present. Instead, she used her sojourn to the therapy box to decide that she needed to kill, rather than save, Hope—hardly a vital realization, since Lizzie had been ready to kill the Tribrid ever since Hope attacked Alaric. Lizzie and Josie’s Siphoner powers mean they could take on Hope’s Tribrid form together, but unfortunately for viewers, the Legacies villain will last at least another week because one supporting star was busy with a solo adventure at a vital juncture.
