Leverage 10 Characters We Hope The Revival Brings Back

A lot of television today relies on serial storytelling, but there’s something to be said for the case-of-the-week format procedurals use. It allows for a wide range of guest stars and characters who become a fun reminder of old storylines when they pop up again. That’s part of the fun of Leverage.

The show’s primary focus is the relationships and character development of the core five, but there are a few characters who recurred throughout the series and those who only appeared once, never to be heard from again. With Leverage being revisited in a revival, there are plenty of characters the series would benefit from seeing again.

10 Maggie

With Timothy Hutton not returning as Nate, the Robin Hood of the series, it’s unlikely that Maggie would make an appearance. But considering that she becomes friends with both Sophie and Parker in the original series, it’s not impossible.

Maggie is frequently referenced as the “most honest person” the team knows, but even she helps contribute to a con or two. Her final appearance in the series also reveals that she has a bit of a crush on her ex-husband’s nemesis, Jim Sterling, which would be exciting to revisit.

9 Alexander Moto

There are very few villains in the Leverage series who make repeat appearances, and the ones that do tend to be corrupt businessmen. Alexander Moto, however, is into more than just taking over a corporation.

Not only does Moto try to lead a coup to take over his country from his brother, but he is also into the (blood) diamond trade, and he hides his criminal dealings through his charity projects. With a character who’s got a finger in every pie, there are a lot of avenues the show could still explore with him. Moto being played by the fantastic Giancarlo Esposito doesn’t hurt either.

8 Amy

It’s rare for Parker to make friends. It’s even rarer to have an episode focus the majority of its action on one main character. “The Broken Wing Job” sees both of those things happen.

When Parker is left behind on a job because of an injury, a waitress at Hardison’s brewery named Amy is tasked with helping her out. While Amy brings Parker meals, Parker gets bored and starts monitoring the security feeds. The two end up working together to stop what appears to be a robbery, but is actually a planned kidnapping of Amy herself. Amy is never fully let in on the secret of what the Leverage team does, but she sees Parker as a friend and Hardison as a great boss, so it would be very interesting to revisit her character a decade later.

7 Tara

The team needs five people (usually) to properly pull off big cons. That’s the mastermind, the thief, the hacker, the hitter, and the grifter. When Sophie, their grifter, takes an extended vacation to get away from Nate for a while (and so actress Gina Bellman could have her baby), Sophie sends Tara, an old friend, to help the team out.

Tara and Sophie’s styles are incredibly different. While Sophie tries to maintain an air of mystery to return to a con years later, Tara has no problem burning her bridges and never returning. Seeing how the two work together in the “The Girls’ Night Out Job” is a lot of fun, and makes the possibility of Tara joining the team as an additional player instead of a substitute all the more compelling. Of course, actress Jeri Ryan might be busy with the streaming Star Trek offerings instead.

6 Hurley

Hurley is a ridiculously gullible character — and that’s part of what makes his time on the show so great. When he first debuts in season 1 he’s the team’s target because he “stole” money from a charity. In reality, the business he works for is mixed up with several different criminal groups, and Hurley tries to use them to increase the charity’s investment, which doesn’t work out so well.

His next appearance sees him falling in love with a nun on the run who is actually working undercover in a drug cartel to get medical supplies to kids in need. Hurley manages to get himself into the most complicated situations, so we can only imagine what 2021 would have in store for him.

5 Josie

What happens to the people the team helps out of trouble? Josie would be the perfect character for the audience to find out.

Josie is a member of a car-theft ring, but she’s just a teenager learning the ropes when Parker’s influence gets her out of crime and into a landscaping job. She’s smart, picking up on things as quickly as Parker, and it’s hard to imagine her not wanting to use her skills for more than edging gardens. Would she have remained on the straight and narrow? Or would her skills at boosting and repairing cars have led her back to the heist life?

4 Dr. Laroque

Dr. Laroque has a few very brief scenes in the show, in only the second episode of the series. She’s the doctor to the injured veteran who asks Nate to look into the death of his friend.

Dr. Laroque is protective of her patients and she tries to send Nate away, believing he’s running a scam. She also, however, doesn’t have enough funding to get everyone the care they need. That’s why Nate and his team bring a few million dollars of stolen money to the hospital, leaving just enough behind to get the people who stole it into trouble. Dr. Laroque tells the team that, “the world doesn’t work that way,” when they present her with the money, which leads to a response of, “so, change the world.” Did she?

3 Agent McSweeten

Leverage 10 Characters We Hope The Revival Brings Back

Due to the nature of the Leverage team’s work — taking down corrupt individuals that the law hasn’t caught up with — sometimes, they do cross paths with law enforcement officials. FBI agents that travel across the country for their cases make for some fun recurring characters and chances to re-use old aliases.

Agent McSweeten even gets help from the team at one point, asking them to help him solve a decades-old mystery, though his crush on Parker remains unfulfilled. How far up in the FBI’s ranks has he moved since? Are he and Agent Taggert still partners?

2 Chaos

His real name isn’t actually Chaos; it’s Colin. Chaos is his hacker handle. Played hilariously by Wil Wheaton, Chaos is a nemesis of the team at the beginning of his appearances on the show. He even tries to kill Sophie.

Despite his hatred of — and rivalry with — Hardison, Chaos actually gets recruited to help the team with a heist to maintain their anonymity. The animosity between the two makes for some seriously entertaining dialogue.

1 Sterling

Known for his roles in genre shows like Firefly, Supernatural, and Doom Patrol, Mark Sheppard has a lot of television under his belt. In addition to those shows, he’s also insurance adjuster turned Interpol agent Jim Sterling in Leverage.

The original series finale of Leverage sees Sterling and Nate finally call the favors owed between them even. As one of the most brilliant investigators in the series, however, Sterling is one of the few people who can keep up with the team’s cons, and it would be exciting to see them cross paths one more time.
