Lilo & Stitch: The 10 Funniest Quotes

Lilo & Stitch is one of Disney’s more recent beloved animated classics. With both heart and humor, the movie has some excellent and memorable quotes.

Since its release in 2002, Disney’s animated movie Lilo & Stitch has captured the hearts of audiences and still continues to do so to this day. Full of warmth and humor, the popularity behind Lilo & Stitch is due to a heartfelt story about family, excellent characterization, and some of its most memorable lines.

There are a number of heartfelt quotations from Lilo & Stitch to tug at the heartstrings, but there are also some brilliant one-liners to make the audience laugh to balance out those emotional moments. From bringing a running gag full circle to highlighting the importance of the movie’s message, these quotes remain some of the movie’s best lines.

10 “Using A Little Girl For A Shield! This Is Low, Even For You!”

Sent to capture Stitch from Earth is his creator, scientist Dr. Jumba Jookiba, and intergalactic Earth expert Pleakley. The former is initially one of the movie’s primary antagonists, only just about restrained by the frantic Pleakley from making a public spectacle of capturing Stitch.

The two locate Stitch at the dog rescue center, in which Stitch is aware of their presence and barks for Lilo’s attention. Lilo unwittingly protects Stitch from getting shot, which causes Jumba to angrily shout the above exclamation. Seeing as Jumba is meant to be villainous, it’s both funny and touching to see that even the mad scientist has moral standards. The scene gets even better when Stitch mockingly taunts him right in front of an oblivious Lilo.

9 “Does This Look Infected To You?”

There are subtle parallels between Lilo and Stitch early on and one is that both of them bite their adversary at the time. Lilo bites bully Mertle in a fit of rage, and Stitch bites Captain Gantu out of spite. After being bitten, both Mertle and Gantu ask their friends and colleagues respectively “does this look infected to you?”

Whilst Mertle’s query comes across as childish bullying, it is a lot funnier when Gantu asks it. Towering over his colleagues and even the Grand Councilwoman, Gantu is extremely formidable and tough. For him to meekly ask someone much lower ranking than him whether the bite looked infected seems both endearingly and hilariously out of character for the powerful alien captain.

8 “Saved The Planet Once. Convinced An Alien Race That Mosquitoes Were An Endangered Species.”

One of the running gags in the movie is that Pleakley believes that mosquitoes are endangered and does all he can to make sure Earth and its wildlife are safe and thriving, purely to support the mosquito food chain. He soon learns the nasty truth about mosquitoes when camping outside Lilo’s house.

It is revealed why Pleakley is obsessed with mosquito preservation at the end of the movie. Social worker Cobra Bubbles states that he was a former CIA agent who saved the planet by somehow convincing an alien race that mosquitoes, one of the most common yet least liked creatures on Earth, are an endangered species. The line doesn’t only tie up a rather funny running gag but also solves the mystery of the enigmatic Cobra Bubbles.

7 “You’re Just Jealous Because I’m Pretty!”

Another notable trait of Pleakley is that he dresses up in Earth womens’ clothing when in disguise and really enjoys it, as seen when he’s preening himself in front of a mirror wearing one of his wigs.

Jumba catches him in the act and decides he wants to try on the wig, which Pleakley refuses. Jumba wrestles him for the wig where Pleakley yells “You’re just jealous because I’m pretty!” The one-eyed alien provides a lot of comedy relief already but this moment also shows a goofy side to the slightly more sinister Jumba. The line also amusingly contradicts Jumba openly calling a disguised Pleakley “ugly” earlier.

6 “I’m Sorry I Bit You. And Pulled Your Hair. And Punched You In The Face.”

Early in the movie, Lilo gets into a fight with her classmate Mertle after the latter called her crazy for making sure Pudge the fish got his sandwich. Yet what is most sad is how Lilo tries her best to make friends with Mertle and her gang, they constantly belittle and exclude her from their activities.

Later on, Lilo sees her “friends” and attempts to apologize to Mertle, which she immediately rejects. Whilst a simple apology, this quote has somehow become one of the most popular quotes in the movie. Although Lilo was the one who physically beat up Mertle, it’s extremely easy to side with Lilo regardless. She is the sweet misfit that means well whereas Mertle isn’t likable at all – in fact, she’s easily the least likable character in Lilo & Stitch.

5 “I’m Sure Elvis Had His Bad Days Too.”

The soundtrack of Lilo & Stitch is rather unique for a Disney movie. Along with two original songs, Lilo & Stitch also use music from rock and roll legend Elvis Presley. The Elvis songs are fitting because, according to Vision TV, Elvis had a “gigantic affection” for Hawaii.

At the encouragement of Bubbles to make Stitch a “model citizen”, Lilo decides to use Elvis as Stitch’s role model. It’s naturally a disaster, the attempts including Stitch trying to woo an elderly lady. Lilo reassures Stitch that Elvis had his bad days too. It’s a very sweet gesture but also rather funny, as it’s hard to imagine heartthrob Elvis having a “bad day” with the ladies.

4 “She Thinks It’s Fancy?”

Considered one of the best male Disney characters, David is Nani’s friend-later-boyfriend. The kind surfer also worked as a fire dancer at the restaurant Nani worked at and is extremely supportive of Nani and Lilo during their times of need.

At the restaurant, Nani turns down another date offer from David (not due to unrequited affection but rather she has a lot to handle at that point.) Lilo reassures a despondent David that Nani “likes [his] butt and fancy hair” after reading her diary. David’s spirits are lifted and he replies “she thinks it’s fancy?” It’s rather funny yet sweet that David is really happy to know that Nani likes his hair yet doesn’t even acknowledge that she also “likes his butt.”

3 “My Camera’s Full Again! Aren’t They Beautiful?”

One of the reasons why Lilo is an extremely lovable character is that she’s eccentric. Whether it’s her handmade doll Scrump or “punishing” her classmates with voodoo, Lilo’s oddball nature has easily won over a number of viewers.

Photographing tourists at their most unflattering is one of Lilo’s strange hobbies, as seen a the start of the movie when she takes a picture of a sunburnt tourist holding a melting ice cream. The audience soon sees the full extent of Lilo’s hobby after she declares happily “my camera’s full” and shows a confused Nani (and the audience) her unusual collection of photos. Lilo is weird but it’s this weirdness that makes her both lovable and in some cases relatable.

2 “I Hate It When You Use Ohana Against Me.”

The signature quote from Lilo & Stitch is without question “Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.” It was a message passed on from Lilo and Nani’s late father and it is this quote that ties the whole movie together, seeing Lilo and Nani mend their broken family and Stitch find a family of his own.

The quote is first spoken by Lilo when Nani is about to throw Stitch out. Nani begrudgingly lets Stitch stay indoors and tells Lilo “I hate it when you use Ohana against me.” This small moment is the perfect introduction to the message, as it shows just how much it means to Lilo and Nani, who are easily some of the best Disney siblings onscreen to date.

1 “HIIIIIIIIIII.”

There’s no question that Stitch is one of Disney’s most popular characters in recent years. Hilarious and adorable, Stitch steals every scene he’s in, whether it’s because of his outrageous destructive nature or heart-melting softer side as he yearns for family.

Whilst one of the main characters, Stitch doesn’t speak as much as the other characters, which is most likely due to being a new creation fresh out of the lab. Stitch speaks his first Earth words in the movie on Earth, when Lilo first encounters him, Lilo shyly says “hi,” to which Stitch responds with his now-famous “HIIIIIIIIIII.” Whilst “Ohana means family” is the movie’s signature line, the eerie “Hiiiiiiii” is definitely the line most associated with the lovable blue alien.
